Heh.. Now that I've got a house, I can make my own. Need to buy a grill first, though. I think you can buy the stuff online. What I need mailed is liver pudding and Bass sausage.

Here ya go! I was going to briefly explain, but I found the answer here more helpful.
Where does these natural products come from you ask? Pine trees. Pine trees everywhere! Ask any native North Carolinian and they will tell you that when they would walk through the woods as youngins, and in most cases barefooted, they would come home with tar stuck to the bottom of their soles. This, historians suspect, is how the phrase "tar heel" originated. In 1862 "tar-heel" was introduced as a term of ridicule. Why? Well, the State of North Carolina was the last state to succeed from the Union. Apparently, the State officials held out to the last moment. Therefore, throughout the South, the state was known as "the reluctant state". The joke circulating around at the beginning of the war went something like this: " Got any tar?"- "No, Jeff Davis has bought it all."- "What for?"- "To put on you fellow's heels to make you stick."- As the war continued, many North Carolinian troops developed smart replies to this term of ridicule. Such as when the 4th Texas Infantry lost its flag at Sharpsburg. Passing by the 6th North Carolina a few days afterwards, the Texans called out, "Tarheels!", and the reply was, "Ifin you had had some tar on your heels, you would have brought your flag back from Sharpsburg".

Tobacco Road teams usually support each other during times like this.
Too bad I didn't plan the menu better--it's chicken & dumplings tonight. Not bad for down home cooking.
p.s. the BBQ around here is horrible! Last good BBQ I had was ordered from A Southern Season.

No kidding? I bet we have met! I have been friends with these guys since 1981. I talk to them from time to time, as I miss NC and their music so much.
Last time I was home, I went down to their office and stocked up on Cd's I didn't have..LOL You can't get good Beach music in Jersey!
They were going to play in Atlantic City on a show with Bill Deal and I was so excited, but it fell through :(

I hope Louisville and Illinois pound each other. 4 Overtimes would be great!!!!!!
I'd rather see Illinois win because they are Big 10 and I'd love to get a rematch with them for the title, but I have nothing against Louisville either.

That is so interesting. Thanks! As a Northerner I do not know the stories, and admittedly I am far more knowledgeable about the Revolutionary war than the Civil war.( I know next to nothing about the civil war). I have always stayed away from learning about the Civil war because I had ancestors on both sides.
Anyhoo- I appreciate the info. I will now tell my son -and quit filling his head with Mom's nonsense! ;}

My husband use to be with Bill Deal and still played with him from time to time until he died in December of 2003.

Hey---I could go for some Bar-B-Que myself, BUT not the Carolina type---
it has to be TEXAS BBQ for me!!!
Question---did the ex-coach of Kansas, win the title while there? I am pretty sure he did, but I am having a major memory lapse here-can't remember his name or record at Kansas....
I am sure someone here will fill me in--Please?

Oh I am so sorry to hear that. My belated condolences to you.
The first time I saw the Rhondels was in 1978 or 79 at High point College(university now). I was a Fresh, or SOP, and that was my first experience with beach music. They were awesome!

North Carolina and
Michigan State have met once before in a NCAA semifinal game. It was in 1957, and it was played in Missouri like the upcoming one (though in Kansas City, not St. Louis). It must have been a pretty decent game; the Tar Heels prevailed 74-70 in triple overtime. It's almost a "forgotten game" in UNC history, due to the fact that the Championship game, incredibly, also went to triple overtime, before UNC edged Kansas (and Wilt Chamberlain) 54-53. I've seen film clips of several minutes in length of the UNC-KU game, but never even one second of the semifinal game.
I don't know whether to hope for an equally exciting game tonight; it might be too much for me. But it should be a good 'un.

I miss my bbq and beach music!Oh, when the sun beats down and burns the tar up on the roof
And your shoes get so hot you wish your tired feet were fire-proof
Under the boardwalk, down by the sea, yeah
On a blanket with my baby is where I'll be
(Under the boardwalk) out of the sun
(Under the boardwalk) we'll be havin' some fun
(Under the boardwalk) people walking above
(Under the boardwalk) we'll be making love
Under the board-walk (board-walk!)
