Word For The Day, Thursday, March 31, 2005
03/31/05 | Slip 18

March 31, 2005, Thursday

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

SEMINAL

Adjective
Pronunciation: Semin/al
Etymology: I don’t know. I can’t read the danged thing.

1) Of, derived from, containing or consisting of seed or semen ( ~ vessel )
2) Having the characteristics of originative power, principle or source: containing or contributing seeds of later development: germinate

I actually heard this word on the news (of course FNN) the other night. It had nothing to do with fluid, you Croqs.

IMHO, there should have been (and could have been) a de novo review of her case years ago. It wasn't done by any of the higher courts. They only ruled on the rulings of The Court of Greer, not on the facts of the case.

It was the utter refusal to do the "new review" that astounds me. And that decision, is squarely to blame on Clinton's anointed federal judge. (Whittenmore, I think.)

But at the Supreme Court level, why did they ignore the new law passed by Congress? Why was that law considered "unconstitutional"?

And, does anybody know the Supreme Court count? 5-4? Unanimous?

This Dutch war monument may be scrapped because it looks too seminal.

Memorial looks like big penis
A Dutch war memorial that goes up and down, and spurts flames may be scrapped after complaints it looks like a giant penis.

Arghie, when I read "Pets don't get into bad moods," I had to quit reading. This person doesn't have pets. Our dog and cat get into snits all the time. They will disobey commands just for the fun of it -- cats are different than dogs in the command arena.

Our dog is very loving. The cat is very loving when HE wants it. But they do get in a mood.

i could be wrong, but i think that when they refuse to take a case the vote count is not revealed. i think a majority has to vote to want to hear it.

there were all kinds of reasons bandied about as to why it was considered unconstitutional, none of them valid in my opinion. But congressman billybob would be the better one to speak to it, as i think he has had a constitutional practice if i am not mistaken.

My understanding is that they just punted. They did not review it at all. So there is no vote count.

but of course, they had to de-humanize her, in order to justify this tragedy going to fruition.

Dutch, you've got to see W's post.

I remember not too long ago where there was a museum for which we as citizens of these here United States paid up the arse to have constructed and artists paid, et cetera, that was a museum of phalluses (phalli?).

Thanks for the link, W! A++++ for you.

See, Vastie, aShepard comes in quite a few times a week.

"I" will not offer any comment on Slippy's apparent knowledge of how often (and where!) A Shepard happens to come every week....

That is because "I" am innocent and deboner. (Unlike HObby and Arghie, who are very dirty-minded and are likely to get suspicious.)
