Being one of the FReepers completely outraged by this matter, I think I speak for many of us, although not all of us. We are still furious at EVERYONE in government, period! And some in talk radio are on the verge of ticking us off, too.
Regarding the Bush Family:
Sometimes, people believe what they subconsciously want to believe. I've [reluctantly] concluded that neither in the Bush family is going to stick their necks out any further on this. They broke a lance on the shield of death and moved on. They were, for a brief time, part of the solution. Now, they are off the field.
Sadly, after all these days, if the governor took action now, and if she recovered, then whatever damage remains in her, kidneys for example, that would haunt him. He already burned his bridge behind him on this.
So, it's just like the 90s all over, where politicians run scared from some old fashioned push poll, thinking the Old Media is 'all-powerful', and then bending an ear to advisors who think the same way.
CONCLUSION REGARDING TERRI: No member of the government will save her, period. I appreciate the efforts of all the talk radio hosts, with the obvious exception of Neal Boortz, who, as far as I know, never mentioned the gagged witnesses, the tape that could well be her voice, etc. Michael Savage was the only one with the best way of looking at this. Government failed Terri, period.
AND: We must be careful at this point. Some of us want to 're-channel' everyone's energy, as though it's some kind of force to be 'tapped into'. This energy is like ball lightning so long as she's alive. We appreciate rants. We appreciate concern for HER. We appreciate love, even sarcasm about Death. We do not appreciate manipulation. Later, we'll take the 'long view'. When she passes, you bet. But so long as there is hope for HER, anything that tastes like Wellstone tripe is sickening.

Great tag line.
"I understand your frustration over this."
Thank you.
"What is happening to Terri is Wrong .. Plain Wrong"
Right. I hadn't heard that enough times yet, which is strange. How many more times do I want to hear it? This outrage will last me a lifetime.
"But place it where it belongs .. at Felos"
Most of my anger is toward Felos, Michael, Greer, and the left in general-- so is everyone's. But so long as she's alive, we need to hear more from posters like you, who are seeking common ground. The kneejerk bushbots, with their tassled pom-poms and thoughtless exhortations are only throwing gasoline on the fire.
I didn't really want this to be so much about 'bush good vs. bush bad'. That's why I came down as 'bush kinda good'. But 'kinda good' means I supposedly wrote 'bush bad'.
I was trying to move past that silliness and discuss the danger of using Terri as a Wellstone prop before she's even dead.
Thank you for your thoughtful post.

Why isn't this in "Chat"?
It appears that the law needs to contain in its letter, what is already there in its spirit - I suggest that there is a "Terri's Law", to define precisely what the procedure should be in such cases. There should be safeguards built into the law, such as:
1. The primacy of living wills.
2. In the case of a dispute between relatives, the bias needs to be to life.
3. Starvation and dehydration to induce death, made illegal.
4. Clear delineation between "disabled" and "terminal" conditions, with "pulling the plug" reserved solely for the latter.
I accept that the President and Governor Bush have tried to act carefully within the law - but it is now painfully obvious that with the present set of judges interpreting the law, the laws need to speak with complete precision to avoid false interpretations in the future.
Regards, Ivan
I agree with you there
But sadly her fate was sealed with the Judges oiginal court ruling .. thanks to the law that was passed in Fl
That and the fact that sadly her parents lawyers were either in over their heads or just incompetent
They screwed up with the brief they filed with the Federal Court
"By doing all of the above, it was the PEOPLE--not just Felos and the judges--who decided Terri's fate."
Well said. We all have a little blame. I didn't do enough research early on. I bumped into a transcript of one of the gagged witnesses several months ago and well, there were other leftist problems to deal with, so it got buried in the sweet by-and-by.
I'm not part of 'the problem', either. But just like the Bush family, I am not exactly wearing a completely white hat either. I'm just a 'kinda good guy', just as I described the Bush family up above, breaking one lance and leaving the field.
FReegards....
You're not on the Conservative Alerts email list. There is a petition to impeach Greer, though the good of it being signed by Americans in states other than Florida escapes me.
I agree, the Bush brothers failed miserably on this. I have been a strong supporter of our president in the past, but his actions(or lack thereof) have made me recapitulate how history will view him.
This is a sad time for Terri, her family and this great nation.
"That and the fact that sadly her parents lawyers were either in over their heads or just incompetent. They screwed up with the brief they filed with the Federal Court."
Gosh. I guess we all need to go to law school these days....
And I, too, did not do enough early on to help Terri. Now it's too late. So while I say the Bush family are 'kinda good guys', I call myself the same, just 'kinda good'.
Sad FReegards....
"Where there is life there is hope." ~Terri Schiavo. My husband and I have continued making phone calls to everyone in authority we can think of.
"2. In the case of a dispute between relatives, the bias needs to be to life. 3. Starvation and dehydration to induce death, made illegal."
Sounds good.
And 4: Save Terri until her accident is carefully investigated.
Stubborn FReegards....
"Now it's too late."
It would take a real man, like Thomas Jefferson, to save her at this point.
Sad FReegards....
In all honesty .. I've been laying sort of low .. mainly because the gasoline is being thrown from BOTH sides
Though I understand to reasons why folks are upset .. (imo) it doesn't help
Thank you for your thoughtful post.
You're welcome and thank you
See ... we bushbots are so bad after all :0)
I believe it would take a Free Republic.
"Why isn't this in "Chat"?"
Maybe that's because not everyone thinks the same way.
1. I think it's important to make the distinction that the Bush family are kinda on the right side, while perhaps not as bold as many of us would like. Some would say, 'kinda good' is an understatement. Others would say, 'kinda good is just about right'. Then we can move on and unite against the enemis of Life.
2. I think it is dangerous to look at Terri as a Wellstone prop, particularly while she's alive. So before anyone is tempted to, I thought it important to bring that warning.
If you consider this to be idle chat, feel free.
FReegards....
"I believe it would take a Free Republic."
Gee. Makes a person kinda' think. JimRob is absolutely correct about judicial tyranny. At present, we need to deal with our pain.
FReegards...
I'm afraid that after being dehydrated this long, the damage to Terri is now irreversible. The pro-death people have won this battle. The outcome of the war is yet to be decided.

"See ... we bushbots are so bad after all :0) "
I didn't call you a bushbot. You are a thoughtful Bush supporter. Big Difference. And yes, gasoline is being thrown by both sides.
FReegards....
"I'm afraid that after being dehydrated this long, the damage to Terri is now irreversible."
Right. The government as a whole has burned its bridge on this. That is the painful truth.
