The Terri Wellstone Memorial [FReeper Rant]

Posted on 03/29/2005 1:59:49 AM PST by Arthur Wildfire! March

Being one of the FReepers completely outraged by this matter, I think I speak for many of us, although not all of us. We are still furious at EVERYONE in government, period! And some in talk radio are on the verge of ticking us off, too.

Regarding the Bush Family:

Sometimes, people believe what they subconsciously want to believe. I've [reluctantly] concluded that neither in the Bush family is going to stick their necks out any further on this. They broke a lance on the shield of death and moved on. They were, for a brief time, part of the solution. Now, they are off the field.

Sadly, after all these days, if the governor took action now, and if she recovered, then whatever damage remains in her, kidneys for example, that would haunt him. He already burned his bridge behind him on this.

So, it's just like the 90s all over, where politicians run scared from some old fashioned push poll, thinking the Old Media is 'all-powerful', and then bending an ear to advisors who think the same way.

CONCLUSION REGARDING TERRI: No member of the government will save her, period. I appreciate the efforts of all the talk radio hosts, with the obvious exception of Neal Boortz, who, as far as I know, never mentioned the gagged witnesses, the tape that could well be her voice, etc. Michael Savage was the only one with the best way of looking at this. Government failed Terri, period.

AND: We must be careful at this point. Some of us want to 're-channel' everyone's energy, as though it's some kind of force to be 'tapped into'. This energy is like ball lightning so long as she's alive. We appreciate rants. We appreciate concern for HER. We appreciate love, even sarcasm about Death. We do not appreciate manipulation. Later, we'll take the 'long view'. When she passes, you bet. But so long as there is hope for HER, anything that tastes like Wellstone tripe is sickening.

Where have you been?

They did too stick their necks out for her

I understand your frustration over this

What is happening to Terri is Wrong .. Plain Wrong

But place it where it belongs .. at Felos

Some people may wonder, is this 'spurious Bush bashing'? Well, I never said that the Bush family was part of the problem. All I said is that they broke one lance on the shield of death and left the field. Heck, I was holding back my punches.

But different people will see what they want to.

Believe me, I've looked into what the Bush family is still able to do. I was holding back my punches.

They can't do it and you know it

He flew back to DC to help this girl

Don't tell me he didn't try

And Jeb has been trying to help her for years .. even got a law passed to help the family

Put the blame where the blame belongs .. at Felos at her husband

I can understand what's happening, but your anger is misplaced. As Rush suggested today, neither the President or Gov Bush wants to be a dictator. They've done all they can within the rule of law - it's simply that the law is insufficient to save her.

Yep, they have done everything possible and now it is time for OUR President W to shake up the Supreme court with his appointments.

Yep, I'm not going to bash President Bush or Jeb about this case. I think it's wrong and my anger is directed squarely at judges and attorneys who can get away with this I think it's disgusting that the US, with 5% of the Worlds population, needs 50% of the Worlds attorneys.

And even appointed judges need some oversight, for when THEY lose sight of the Constitution. If they are going to be chosen by appointment, there needs to be a way to get them off the bench if they go outside of set boundaries.

Your anger is directed at the lawyers and judges "who got away with this"??

We come from opposite sides on this issue, but I really have a hard time figuring your logic in the above.

libs, my man, the exact same types of deaths, tube and plug-pullings, have been happening for years, and some doctor said about "100 per day, or so."

Since the Schiavo case has proceeded according to all those others, and I mean ALL, how is it that the judges and lawyers in this case "got away" with anything?

See, my logic tells me that if Terri's case had gone your way, and had not followed the accepted and long-established legal precedents in this country, saying that the judges and lawyers had pulled something off would then be correct.

You got it backwards.

Funny. The intention of this post was to find common ground, a bridge. But the bushbots want complete adoration or nothing. So, here goes:

I took one of these kneejerk Bushbot posts to dissect. Curious what you both have to say about it.

"They can't do it and you know it"

Jeb Bush may not be able to do anything in a political sense, but in a constitutional and legal sense he can, and they hadn't figured that out yet? 'State of emergency'.

"He flew back to DC to help this girl. Don't tell me he didn't try."

I didn't even say he did nothing. They aren't even reading well.

"And Jeb has been trying to help her for years .. even got a law passed to help the family"

Someone mentioned that jello had to be mailed to Jeb Bush a few years back to spur him into action. I did say he tried, and I also mentioned the painful truth, he left the field.

"Put the blame where the blame belongs .. at Felos at her husband"

I did not even say the Bush family was part of the problem and suggested to people that there's no point in trying to prod him any more. He already burned that bridge. But they are so fanatically loyal it's kind of disturbing.

There's no point trying to find common ground with bushbots. They are only worth talking with if you have complete and total praise for them. We should give them a Bushy forum and offer them pom-poms.

While others seem to be missing your point, I get it. (Welstone Redux: "Hey, she's dead, and she died because of judicial tyranny: her death is the perfect platform upon which to build our case, rally the troops, raise awareness of and support for the Bush agenda, and we can all wear upside-down black ribbons to show our solidarity with her, rah-rah-rah...!") I appreciate and share your opinion.

But different people will see what they want to.

Funny thing, I've heard calls for impeaching Jeb and even W, but I've not heard many calls for impeaching Greer. Hmmmm. No wonder we were the minority party for decades, we're complete and total idiots.

I agree...partially. Felos is just an instrument. He and the judges may very well have been stopped by an outpouring of public sympathy for Terri's plight. When a large majority of Americans chose moral relativism over individual rights, that let the judiciary wash their hands of the matter.

Most Americans have not followed this case like many of us have (for years). They first saw Terri about 3 weeks ago...and it made them uncomfortable. They don't WANT to look at her. They just want it to go away. They say THEY wouldn't want to live like that and impute their opinions to Terri. They say "the husband should decide", imputing to Michael Schiavo the same caring devotion they assume their own spouse would display. They don't want to be bothered with "the details".

By doing all of the above, it was the PEOPLE--not just Felos and the judges--who decided Terri's fate.
