LDotter Note on Why No Schiavo Threads
Lucianne.com ^ | LComStaff

Posted on 03/27/2005 5:29:48 AM PST by AmericanMade1776

Comments on the Schiavo story have now become repetitive, argumentative and increasingly ugly. Posters are losing their privileges for attacking and spamming. We feel we are serving our readers by posting articles but not allowing threads for comment. By doing this we save our members from themselves and preserve their ability to post.If subject is introduced on threads that are not about the Sciavo story they will be deleted.

Its all bound up, mostly, in value judgements, and one's individual values, I suppose. One man's diamonds are another man's trash maybe.

Just going on record here, as my last TS post, that we need to stop eating our own and ourselves on those other emotional TS threads. Too many getting suspended, banned or pulled, egged-on by trolls.

Anyway, Happy Blessed Easter, FReepers!

I don't have a problem with Lucianne.com's decision. By its nature, that site does not promote interaction among posters. By its rules, people are not supposed to respond directly to each other on ANY thread.

I prefer FR's format, but can understand and respect Lucianne's decision to have a less interactive approach.

Probably the real reason is that nobody wants to work today because it's a holiday and they'd like to put the site on cruise control.
No, that site's had that notice up for several days-- if not a week. Lucianne's a control freak-- always has been. Civility is to be appreciated. The way FReepers are tearing into each other here is so sad.

I agree....long after TS is with Him, there will be FReepers who harbor ill feelings towards others because of a nasty, emotional discourse they had over the issue. And that will diminish FR. I pray for TS and we need to grieve. I understand that - but, good grief, we have been nasty towards one another.

I am unnerved by talk of Satan and demons,,,not that there is anything wrong with that,,,but it sort of puts one in an odd position. For instance, you hear just exaggerated lies about things and if you say "wait a minute" that isn't true, suddenly you find yourself relegated to Satan's corner even if you don't believe in satan. And if you say you really don't believe in satan, then you are really really in his corner on and on the side of killers.

It makes me tired.

I'm going to the big Easter dinner later at my mom's house.
At dinner I intend to say a prayer and remember the blessings because joy paves the way for love.

That video grab is a lie....in terms of when it was filmed.

That's years'old file video.

Your right, it is shameful!

On this Easter, let's remember these words for Terri...

2Timothy 4: 6-8
For I am even now ready to be sacrificed: and the time of my dissolution is at hand. I have fought a good fight: I have finished my course: I have kept the faith.
As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice which the Lord the just judge will render to me in that day: and not only to me, but to them also that love his coming.

Death by dehydration. You will not see any pictures of the true torture..nor will you see an autopsy. It will all be covered up.

I will bet you anything she doesn't look like this anymore..

Terri Schiavo Before dehydration

God Bless you Terri in your hour of death

Let everyone who said your beautiful smile was fake be haunted by it for the rest of their days.

This is a wonderful example of why I don't post and generally won't visit the LCom website. The smarmy self-righteousness that permeates the website is enough to make you want to gag.

Implicit in this decision by the LCom staff is the assumption that ADULTS cannot restrain themselves and avoid engaging in flame wars or other misconduct. So the LCom staff is going to make sure that adults can't say nasty things by taking away the ability to comment on a specific issue. I have to agree; taking away the ability to comment on "X" subject matter ensures that the (non existent) discourse will be civil.

LCom has admin moderators just the same as Free Republic. Miscreants get booted there just the same as they do here. Actually, thanks to the vigilance of the mods, the Viking Kitties and the R.K.B.A., miscreants get booted even faster here.

The important difference is that at FR, the assumption is that you are an adult and capable of restraining yourself. As such you can address other posters. You can also engage in some fairly spirited debate. And assuming that you behave yourself, you can even be an open and notorious Democrat.

I'll take Free Republic any day of the week.

That caption under the video grab should be Terri Schiavo, 1993.

From a legal standpoint you're right. As far as 'legitimate discussions' however, that horse has pretty much left the barn. FR's Schiavo threads are an embarassment. America is routinely compared to Nazi Germany. Calls for lawless action are commonplace. Wild, unsourced allegations stand as ironclad fact. Civility and common sense are right out the window.

I say this as someone who thinks that injustice is being done, and that her tube should have been reinserted pending a review of the facts. Those threads are hitting lynch mob mentality, and FReepers of any standing should denounce it. We laugh about how the Michael Moore wing of the left has taken over the Democratic Party. Now it's happening to us, and the best we seem to muster is, 'Well, try not to break the law please'.

This is a good example of why "that site" will never be worth FR's spit. The most important story in recent years with enormous implications, and they don't even let you post on it. I've seen lots of sites die from admins playing god.
And here's to hoping they won't be around for long.

You seem quite emotional over this matter, and understandably so.

Remember, though, that sometimes it is necessary to lose the battle in order to win the war. Both brothers tried their best to save the poor woman. Had either of them gone any further, they would have most likely caused grave harm to the stability of Florida or the even country itself. There are many people who would not have looked kindly on sending in the FBI or the National Guard. Sometimes in a battle you can't throw everything you've got out there, lest you overexert yourself and have nothing to throw out in future battles.

We are in the middle of a culture war. Terri's battle was a battle worth fighting, but it is not a battle worth sacrificing all of the gains we have made and stand to make. Terri's life is extremely valuable, especially because she is weak. The weak and defenseless are the ones in need of the most love and care. But, even when fighting against courts that are acting unlawfully, it reaches a point where, in fighting an injustice, you overexert your political capital, leaving no room for future actions. We have a nuclear option to put into place in order to start getting decent judges on the benches. Such is already a dicey proposition politically, but would be much dicier on the heels of a federal agent vs. local police firefight over the Schiavo matter!

It is difficult not to be emotional over matters like this, but we cannot let our emotions blind us to the point where we support taking actions that ultimately undermine our overall goals. We failed this time. Let us keep our failure in our hearts and work to get pro-life judges onto the benches so we can say, "Never again."
