Can't wait to get this one! Comes out next month!!
Two good things at Olive Garden:
1. Bottomless salad
2. Italian margarita (comes with an Amaretto chaser)
Sowell is simply a brilliant man -
Sowell is a truly great mind and courageous, independent thinker. I am looking forward to his new book.
Ditto that.
Quest for Cosmic Justice and Vision of the Anointed both made an impression on me.
I'm betting his mom and dad wouldn't allow him to fail in school. That's how it really is with successful folks.
Google Alphonzo Jackson (HUD Secretary) - what an amazing family he has!
Can only say it again - He should be mandatory reading for all High-School students.
Sowell went to one of NY's wonderful magnet schools where in the fifties and sixties many creative and intellegent people gained incredible education.
Basic Economics changed my entire world view. The man is so awesome at making the complex seem simple.
"Knowledge and Decisions" took me three months to read, but it turned the world upside down. Thomas Sowell is an incredible intellect.
He is a great man.
Arioch7 out.
Would you like BBQ recommendations or general restaurant recommendations? I can do both. :)
Non-BBQ recommendations, please.
Actually, it was Sowell's own hard headedness that saved him. He didn't have parents and was living with an overbearing aunt who wanted him to quit school.

You are right. After reading his autobiographical book, A Personal Odyssey, one can only have the greatest respect for the man. He has marvelously succeeded with the deck stacked against him.
He was born in North Carolina. He was raised by his aunt because his father died when he was young, and his mother was not able to support him. He was raised as his aunt's child, and did not know until years later that he was adopted. His aunt moved to New York when he was about ten years old.
