I got a call from an FBI agent in my local office today. They also left a business card at my residence while I was a work. They want me to come down for an interview. They will not tell me any specifics except that it is within a criminal investigation.

They did say that i was not currently a subject of a criminal investigation whatever that means. I know that law enforcement can legaly lie. The agent said I was "not in any trouble" and it "shouldn't take long to clear it up".
I said I would talk to an attorney first, whioch of course they had no problem with. They also said they couldn't force me to talk to them.
The only thing that might have some bearing on this as far as I can imagine is some heated emails I exchanged with various Dem Underground members last year during the election cycle. I gave as good as I got in those.
Anyone have any helpful info for me?

Wear a bulletproof vest. The FBI is wont to shoot innocent people from time to time.

Don't move to Florida. Get an attorney. Eat green leafy vegetables and drink in moderation. Walk a few miles each day.

Definitely talk to an attorney and definitely say nothing without advice.

Get a lawyer, and take the lawyer with you to the interview.

You're doomed. Doomed I tell you!
Just kidding! I'm sure it's nothing that you need a lawyer for.

You might want to archive your heated emails and put them on a CD and take them with you.

Maybe they are investigating the DU'ers and are seeking information concerning any threats they made in emails to you.

I was interviewed during the Clinton years by the FBI and ATF. If they had something on you, it would not in all likelihood be a "request".

I once had military intelligence officers show up at my house. The began asking questions about my cousin in the Air Force. Apparently she was a candidate for some intell training and they were doing some checking.

I think I'll modify what I said. Get a lawyer first if you can afford it. If not, you can consider going in and seeing why the FBI want to talk with you. But if you do that, DO NOT say anything whatever to them. Do not let yourself be provoked into defending yourself, excusing yourself, or saying anything else. If you are not prepared to hire a lawyer beforehand and take him with you, then it's important not to be tricked into saying anything at all.
ANYTHING whatever that you say can be used against you. And lying to the FBI (which you might do inadvertantly) was the offense that got Martha Stewart a jail term.

Don't talk to them without a criminal lawyer accompanying you.
