The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Sorry they are sick. JP has had what sounds like the same thing, snotty noses, sneezing, but no fever so far. I'm wondering if I may be coming down with it. Scratchy throat:(

That was one of the major gripes I had about the school system, they waste so much of our childrens times, and there just isn't that much time in childhood to let it be wasted. Not that reading a book is a waste, but in the context Emma was reading, it is, IMO.

My children were almost always done with school work by 11:00 in the morning, and probalby learned twice as much in the few hours a day they did school work then they would have in 6 hours in the school system.

Mine will want to play outside today, too. Right now, they are getting to do their favorite thing while they are sick: hang out in my bed and watch tv and order me around.

Theres a lot going around at the moment, Tommy has been unwell for about 5 days and his fever broke last night. Emma and Jacob have sore throats today but no high temperature as of yet.

Unless I thought my kids were faking, which really only happened one time:) I pretty much let them do what they felt they were up too. If they wanted to go outside they went outside. Especially if the sun was shining. I'm a firm believer that the sun cures all ills:)

I am a beliver in fresh air. It has got to be better than being cooped up inside, so if they feel well enough they get to play.
I am so excited about homeschooling, the kids are bright and we wont be wasting time. I am good at organising and schedules so we will be getting up about 7am and starting school at 8. Both children love to learn, and I love to teach. Emma could read and write simple sentences at the age of 2 and a half! : )
Thankyou so uch for reccomending ACE. : D

Becky, you're right about letting them go outside and it should be a pretty nice day today.

Sharn, I always like having the kids home, too. When they are sick it's usually even easier because they lay in bed and watch tv or read, instead of being under my feet.

I have been listening to some of my friends groaning and moaning because there is only 2 weeks left of school and then they will have the children ALL day long : (
I can't believe that the term has not even ended before they start moaning.
Like you Tuffy I love to have my kids home, when they get crabby things get heated, but we generally have a great time. Deaconjim gets to see more of them and we get to go fishing etc.
I am already counting the days to our vacation in Tennessee and Kentucky.......only 10 weeks! We are letting Emmas best friend come with us, she gets on very well with the boys and she is into science and nature like Emma.

Hair - have your horses been out every day while the grass has been coming up? If so, I don't think I'd worry about it too much because they will have already become adjusted to it.

Yea, they have... It just really took off in the past couple weeks.

I'm just watchin', and I'll limit them by feeding hay in the barn at night. I'm gonna mow it too, soon as it dries out a little. Good morning everyone!

Just came in from my morning walk. It's going to be a nice day here. My schedule is as follows.I'm going to give Harley a bath with that shampoo, while he is drying I will ride Rusty, then will ride Harley. I'm suppose to ride this evening with Tina, that will be Rocky's turn.

And 24 is on tonight:)

http://www.kotv.com/main/home/stories.asp?whichpage=1&id=82825

You know, The News on Six thought it was my house that the shooting occured at and was out in front of my house filming my house and cars! LOL We had to set 'em straight.

I signed up at the blood bank when I donated last week for a 2005 Harley Davidson XL 883 Sportster. If I win it, will you come over and take me for a ride on it before I sell it? LOL

I saw your post on the HH about that, but I can't get the link to load on my webtv, and Mack doesn't have the computer going yet in his office.

I haven't heard anything about it.

LOL, you bet:)

We have both our Harleys for sale. They are down at our building. We are keeping our goldwing tho. I can ride one, but I never really got comfortable doing it. I prefered riding on the back with Mack. But I could take you on a ride:)

Just around the block maybe...or in circles in the church parking lot! Just to say I rode it.

Heh heh!

I doubt I'll win it, but you never know.

That's what I wondered...if you knew the people.

Yeah, they showed the field down the street from me, if you just kept going from the church on that street that runs in front of my house and crossed at the stop sign and went down into that newer neighborhood...there's a field that they're clearing down there...they found that bloody plastic bag in that field.

Kinda freaky...we're didn't hear anything.
