This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Yep, there striped:')
They sure are! Mom and Dad don't have striped feet! The other photo I had taken showed it a lot better, but stupid me pressed delete instead of send. : (
It got to 89 outside today. HOT HOT HOT and it is supposed to be like that all week.
Duchess and Becky ahve gone quiet, I know that they need to eat/feed animals, but whenever they go quiet I can't help but thinking foals????? Photos?????? : 0 )
I have to balance my check book. I have sat down several times to do it but I end back here or looking at property:') I hate checks. I prefer to just carry cash and spend it until it's gone. We are saving a lot more but it's APITB
Adge's feet are striped (I believe) because he has white socks but I'm not sure. However - genetic research on appaloosas has pretty much figured out that the appaloosa came from the Spanish or Portuguese horses (Iberian) with a little thrown in from Germany and Russia.
Essentially, that means the original spanish mustangs, not the current ones that are mostly feral ranch horses. So - if Adge has any mustang in him, he might also have some appaloosa :)
I missed the derby yesterday. We spent all afternoon putting up 24' X 24' pipe corrals (five of them) and then today, putting the 55' round pen back up. We had to move it yesterday to have room for the pipe corrals.
BamBam hasn't foaled yet (you were wrong Rose, drat!) but her belly has really dropped. I didn't check to see if she had waxed up again tonight, so I don't know about that.
It has rained on and off here for the past four days now. Paddocks are again deep in mud. We do overrun the water troughs though to help keep the horses feet from getting so dry during the summer. We use Koppertox for thrush when we get that, which isn't often, and some Corona or Hooflex on the hooves also when it's dry.
Hair - have your horses been out every day while the grass has been coming up? If so, I don't think I'd worry about it too much because they will have already become adjusted to it.
Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day.
When your horses get in mud does it drt up like concrete?
Oops sorry about BamBam not foaling yet..... maybe I meant tonight! LOL or the next day, or ............ :)
Our horses aren't registered, they are just common mixtures. As far as I know Adge just has Arabian/QH/Morgan in him. But who knows what his parentage true lines were?
It just surprised me when I noticed it. I believe he is going to be Lightnings color, with black mane and legs. Adge is much lighter than them both, his face, now smooth is much darker than his behind, also smooth now, so who knows what he will end up looking like. His Mom is a paint after all! : )
Hope you had a great mothers day too!
Did you see my new Billy goat? LOL
What are you hoping for from BamBam? A colt or Filly?
http://www.sabinohorseregistry.com/ Look at this. Duchess gave it to me.
My son giving me a hard time about breeding Sarah Lee. He wants a foal. I told him he didn't need a young horse but it was funny because I was explaining that she was registered and he told me with all the different horses around that I should start my own breed:')
My gd thinks that is Sarah Lee. I think all horses classy:')
U r right : )
I meant registered.
Not thinking straight, Tommy is fretful again and I am running in and out making sure he is ok as he is crying in his sleep. : (
Well, I'm actually looking at this checkbook now. I have horses on the checks and I'm viewing all the different pictures:')
No, our dirt here is pretty sandy so although it gets rock hard, you can knock it off pretty easily.
I saw the picture of your goat - :) - when you buy property you need to buy a big trailer to move all your critters.
Looking at the picture of Adge's feet, it looks like his legs above his socks will be black. It's so hard to tell when they are babies - it frustrates me to no end, I want to KNOW now and I have to wait. :)
