This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
So - if you start your own breed, what are you going to try for? Lots of color? Size? Personality (that's my favorite).
I have horses on my checks too! (from artistic checks inc). : )
I think that a new breed "farrier friendly" would be good. Lightning could start it, as he lays on his back with legs up in the air for our farrier! LOL It was a newbie for him to trim like that, but he did it just fine! All of us just couldnt stop laughing though. Lightning is a clown!
No foal:). My daughter came by, and we had supper, now Mack and my SIL are trying to get the new computer working.
Catching up on last time before bed.
I think it's going to storm, but I really don't think there will be a foal tonight.
Becky
I believe you, but I don't believe it:)...you really need to take pictures of that!!
Becky
I have got to see a picture of that :)
Good luck with your new computer. Hopefully Belle has more sense than to have a baby in a storm. I've decided my mares really enjoy giving me a hard time. Maybe if I stop paying attention to them - no neck rubs, no late night brushing, they'll quit milking it and have their foals. :)
I'll get him an older horse when we get our own place and he can learn about younger ones with me if he wants. Color not important. I like Okie's showboy looks but I think Sarah Lees flax tail and mane beautiful and I like her blaze and lightening strike. Size important. Short but wide work best for me and I prefer the longer neck. I guess personality the biggy for me too though.
Shoot, I have to chisel dried mud, grass and rocks out. Sarah Lee has to lean a lot too because her left back hoof always the worst. She rests with the right up so maybe that's why. Who knows?
Boy I don't envy you at all with that. My biggest problem is manure or mud caking up in the bottom of their feet - not hard to get out, just time consuming.
Night everyone. I need a new body but a shower and some sleep may help :)
My ferrier has never had any problems with Okie. He and the first ferrier started out bad and things went down hill from there:') My ferrier told us the other day that he has no problem with him and that they have an understanding. It seems he puts a feed bag on him and Okie a happy camper.
Maybe that's what Cyn and Bay were doing in my dream lol
Good morning.
Becky
How's your kids?
Truth be told, Lightning has only ever been trimmed once that way, the other times he stood as normal! I wish that we had taken photos though! He was so laid back and indifferent! LOL
Good morning Becky. I have all the children at home today with sore throats. No fevers for Emma and Jacob as yet, although Tommy has had one (it broke last night).
I am not too worried about them missing school right now, they have only 2 weeks left and they are both bored crazy as it seems the teachers are using it to enable the slower kids or those that have been off ill, to catch up. Emma read 3 books at school last week, so that gives you some idea!
We have just printed out the "Intent to homeschool" form and will be taking that by later on today.
We are going to order all the materials very soon, but are going to let the kids take the test again first.
How is Belle? Any changes?
Doing somewhat better. After Melissa (the sickest one) spiked that high fever and I was contemplating calling the doc, I took her temperature again and the advil had brought it on down to 99.8 or so. It's back up to 102.2 this morning. The other sick one, Rose, ran a 101 fever yesterday, today it's 102. They both have runny noses, coughing, etc.
They'll keep me hopping today, that's for sure.
And thanks for asking.
Well good grief, you've got sick ones, too??? Must be something going around, there have been quite a few sick kids at school, as well.
Sorry to hear your children still poorly. At least its near the end of term so they wont be missing much.
We got some Advil the other day, the flavour is blue raspberry! It smells delicious and the kids dont mind having it one bit! Emma gets tablets though, as she is older.
Our children, although sick, are wanting to play outside, and we are finishing putting in our vegetable garden.
It is supposed to be in the high 80s again today.
Hope you manage to get some rest. : )
