*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

We're gonna have to build our place from scratch... turn-key has a lot of markup in it, unfortunately. Plus I am sure the layout would be all wrong... I've got the design in my head :~D

But we already got a name picked out, and the internet domain name purchased. Hard part's done! All we need now is the capital and the right piece of land.

I'll keep playing Lotto then. *laughing*

All I ask is that one of you teach me how to ride without falling off. ;-)

Oh we'd never fall off while teaching you to ride, that wouldn't set a very good example ;~D

I think the babies all look kind of pitiful when you first put a halter on them:)

Celia and I did 3 hours again today. I think Harleyboy is really tired. He gets the next two days off, and next week won't be so intense. Celia just doesn't get a chance to ride this much. I could have taken Rocky, but he is sooooooo slow.

As a matter of fact, I'm tired:)

sleeping on it seems to help

Isn't it amazing how that works. I have thought the same thing. If you're teaching a horse something new, if you do it 2 days in a row, it's like the second day they are sooooo much better.

Glad you got a good ride in. I probably won't get to ride this wkend. Gotta work Saturday and my MIL's birthday is Sunday. But at least I'll get to play with the baby.

I have less justification for it, but me too. I felt lousy all morning and gave up and laid down for awhile. At least I kicked the headache. Now I'm having some coffee and a second chance at having a morning.

Good morning everyone!

I just came in from dozing on the swing on the patio. I was mostly reading, but dozed off once in awhile. It's about time to start supper, so I'm trying to get invigorated:)

Drink a cup of coffe for me. Coffee would help but I've sworn off it so I'm stuggling every afternoon with the sleepies:)

Tomorrow night Mack and I are going to go to a high school play that a friend of ours son is in. "Midsummer nights dream"

Anyway, don't know why I'm posting this, just thinking about what I've got coming up....

Anyway, don't know why I'm posting this

It's OK - we're in General/Chat, and strict adherence to the topic is optional. :~D

I haven't been to a high school play since I was in high school :~D

I'm fixing to go to the stables. I am so aggravated. Sarah Lee is sick now. A 3 y/o glands ruptured today. My vet was supposed to go out there and see her and immunize Okie. I told them to call me and give me a 15 minute headstart. I called again at 3:30. He was running late. I reminded them to call me. I called back at 4:30. He had came and gone. I have a bill but no one knows what the diagnosis is. Know one knows if Okie got his shots but he got popped with antibiotics. I asked why. I was told preventative. I asked why, since he had already had it. I was told he was concerned about a relapse after looking at him. A relapse of what? Anyway, I'll talk to the vet tomorrow but I called the owner. She told me she told the vet not to call me when he showed up because I said I wasn't coming out. What I said was please have the horses per the vets request out of the pasture because I have to go back to work and can't go out in the pasture and get mucked up. He didn't tell her what was wrong either, evidently. She thinks it's strangles but told me you heard the house vet say no. Poor woman. She is worried sick, esp about her babies. She said it will kill them. I guess I should be counting my blessings that Okie recovered and Sarah Lee doesn't have such a bad case but...We know it's not Rino now though caz she was definately vac for it. Sorry about the rant. Just had to vent about playing who's on first all day:').

Oh and not that I don't have a reserve but I was going on my lunch break so I haven't eaten yet. That's guaranteed to get me in a bad mood:')

It is understandable that you are upset at how that played out. I'd be mad that I wasn't there.

I hope both of yours are OK.... Strangles, if that is what it is, will now recurr at her barn for ~years~, once it's there. It will affect her business, and who will want to board there, for a long time. I know the boarding stable here that had strangles go through it is really hurting for new business. I didn't take mine there because of it.

Once a horse catches it then they have antibodies, right? I don't know what is going around. The owner is who thinks it is strangles. I am concerned about SL in a different way though. Okie was very ill and I really was concerned he wasn't going to make it a few times but she has me more concerned. With him he was hot, diaphoretic, confused and had trouble walking. I was afraid he had encephalitis. He slung snot everywhere but he was breathing ok. SL seems to get choked with movement. She will cough and then chew and chew. She wheezes a little too. She isn't hot and walks ok though. She also feels like she has the mumps. Unless they all have it and I never noticed she has two hard knots under her lower jaw. The one on the left about a large marble size. The one on the right about ping pong ball size or maybe slightly smaller. I am worried about her airway. I was going to stay out there tonight but the owner said there was nothing I could do and that she could suffocate but most older horses don't.
