ZOT! Taxing Pot...Could it solve the social security problem?

Posted on 03/21/2005 6:06:07 AM PST by FeebleAttempt

Why dont we just tax the heck outta pot and make it legal? i believe it would pay for my generation, and it would be all government controlled. You would have to be 21, i mean am i missing something here or are we missing an opportunity? If we just let go of this taboo crap we might get along without any social security problems. All the taxes from pot go to SS, what do ya think

Earlier, Connelly wrote, when Yarrow sang “Puff the Magic Dragon”
at an event in a private home in Ames, Iowa, “Kerry lifted his
fingers to his mouth for a quick toke on an imaginary joint.
You can almost see his thick mane of silver hair returning to the
shaggy brown do of those days.”

If we were to tax your precious pot you would not be able to afford the 20 or so bong rips you take a day.

My guess is that you are a high school gym teacher who fish bowls the boys locker room and blames it on poor Craig, the kid with the Metallica t-shirt on.

I know your type Feeble, getting all stoned before school and then making fun of the kids that still bring lunch boxes to school.

Do us all a favor and please remove your feeding tube for the good of society.

Looking at your grammar and typos makes me think you've burned way too many brain cells. Drugs are bad for your brain.

i suppose all you drunkies out there are just fine with your habit cause its legal. but it hurts more than pot ever has, i may smoke like a slob, but i dont contribute to 70% of driving fatalities.
Oh golly... where to start.
Well, for a kick-off, THIS drunkie doesn't contribute to 70% of driving fatalities either. I've found a little loophole in that when I drink, I DON'T DRIVE. Fairly simple really.
And yes, we ARE fine with our habit because it is, as you say, legal. I tend to go along with these little things we have called "laws." These are what keep us from going to prison and becoming an even bigger tax burden on society.
But you know what? I've lived with many a pothead, and I have never, not once in my life, encountered one who became SMARTER as a result of smoking marijuana. I'm sorry, I'm sure everybody knows some guy who's, like, wow, man, a total genius, and like, this guy can't get started designing software at the crack of noon until he's had five or six bong hits. I have never met this person. Everybody I've ever met who smoked pot wanted to smoke MORE pot and then call in sick to work and watch taped episodes of Babylon 5 all day, even though they're already into me for two months' back rent.
Should pot be legal? Heck, I don't know. I'm pretty sure that the legalize-it-and-tax-the-hell-out-of-it method that's been proposed by everyone everywhere on the planet at some time or another wouldn't work, because the Feds would have to create the Department of Weed to control and authorize it, which would more than offset any tax income that might come in. Look at booze, for example. It's legal and we tax it, but how much of that tax income makes it past the overheads of the state and federal authorities?
As for Social Security, well, it sounds to this layman like a fairly simple solution: It's our money, not the government's. Give it to us to invest on our own. If we're stupid and invest it in a bunch of junk that goes bust, well, then we're in trouble.
