Subject: Classroom Ideas for Easter
Date: Fri, 18 Mar 2005
From: Gateways to Better Education info@gtbe.org

Dear Gateways Friend:

Are you looking for last minute ideas to teach students about Easter? Try these ideas sent in by parents:

IDEA #1: Similar to a Christmas crèche, make a model of the Resurrection scene to explain the story.

Gateways Campus Partner Diane B____ wrote: “Thanks to the Gateways Easter card, I did a Passover/Easter presentation (complete with a homemade tomb and figures) in my son’s second grade class. I also explained the meaning of the holiday in a fifth grade class.”

IDEA #2: Bring a friend who hasn’t shared about the holiday in her child’s class so she can see how you do it.

Campus Partner Jacque S_____ took a friend with her when she read the Easter story from the Bible to her children’s classes. She wrote: “Now, 40 students in public school (roughly 26 for the first time) heard the story of the foundation of our faith from the Bible!” Jacque added: “My friend Julie, with two toddlers, asked if she could be my helper. She got a sitter and came along with me. She is now trained! Her daughter begins school next year!” What a great way to pass along the tradition to new school moms.

IDEA #3: Give a video on the life of Jesus to the teacher as a gift.

Campus Partner Phyllis S_____, a middle-school mom, gave her son’s Social Studies teacher a copy of a video on the life of Jesus. He liked it so much; he showed it to the whole class.

FReepers, the SPONGEBOB propaganda went out to classrooms everywhere just days ago. Now fight back! Please pass this on to your Teacher friends and parents of kids in public schools. GTBE is a GREAT resource on what is legal despite what the propaganda and "suggested lesson plan" stuff is from the NEA-controlled teacher unions. Teachers and students still have a LOT of free speech rights that you won't hear about via the MSM!

LOL! There's an old Woody Allen joke that the Easter Bunny fears meeting Jewish kids with slingshots....

Seriously, the 'Easter Bunny' and 'Santa Claus' are INSIDIOUS anti-Christian propaganda....American businesses by and large have bought into it wholesale--to sell retail. We can insist they honor our beliefs and if they don't do so with their advertising, we can shop at places that DO. And we should and MUST.

(Stooge Moe) "Wise Guy, eh?" ;)

Seriously, where's my slingshot? No argument that the Easter holiday as well as other ones have pagan calendar links, including Easter Sunday being linked with an ancient goddess of fertility every Spring. But now such things are being used to totally eclipse the eternal significance of Christ's Resurrection. Easter Bunny stuff = Christ Lite. It's become pandemic. Or panDEMONic.

When we buy from merchants whose advertising doesn't acknowledge Easter (or Christmas!) then we support their agenda with our choices.

A Personal Prerogative Ping for my pro-life friends and Colson fans. Those of you who are Jewish can probably think of similar ways to teach children about your faith.

Well of course you did! Bugs is listing to the left, don't you know. Or, maybe the teacher SHOULD have given you extra credit, but got mixed up. Anyway, Bugs is cool.

Like we do at Christmas (Santa Claus) we tell our daughter (3 1/2) that the "Easter Bunny" is a game that some people play (and that is OK for them), but we do not.
Easter is about Jesus, how He died for us, and was resurrected on Easter Sunday.
We don't do an Easter basket for her, (she doesn't eat candy, and esp. not chocolate) but we do give her an Easter present to make the day special.
Some parents worry about how their children will be affected by being "different" from other kids - we are more worried about preparing her for life here, and here-after.
