This morning I was a caller on Lowell Green's radio show (CFRA, Ottawa, Canada). He is a right-wing host and a strong supporter of the United States.
The question on the table this morning was "Are Canadians more apathetic about their government than Americans. If so, why?"
So, as always when the issue of the differences between the two countries and our relationship comes up, I had to call. :)
I said, "Canadians have never had to fight for anything. They didn't have to fight for their independence from England; they don't have to work for their national defense because that's provided by the U.S."
(I should have also added that Canada didn't have to fight the bloodiest battle in its history to preserve itself as a united country. And yes, I know that the South didn't see it that way. But I think everyone can agree that the Civil War was a crucial milestone in the way we defined ourselves as a nation. But I digress...).
Then I said, "Canadians should think about what they want their country to stand for. There were American flags at the Beirut anti-Syrian demonstration, but if you check the video footage, there was the Canadian flag flying at the funeral of Yasser Arafat."
Now, I KNOW I saw those images. I saw a picture of the American flag in Lebanon on FR, but so far I can't find the thread.
And I know that I saw the Canadian flag on the CNN footage and am almost positive that someone posted a picture of the Maple Leaf being flown in that mob scene that was Arafat's funeral.
I want to send Lowell a confirmation of this but so far, I haven't happened upon the right thread.
Thanks infidel.
And you should be darn proud to be an Infidel and part of the Great Satan. You know, the Great Satan that was first on the scene at the biggest Muslim country in the world after a horrible natural disaster. ;)
Gotta log off for the night (or at least for now) but I appreciate all the help. :)
haha! :^DThat reminds me .....
Lately on Rush's show, he has been interjecting sound bite bits into his sound bites. When he plays a sound bite of something stupid the Loonie Libs are sayin', in the background you can hear an occasional Dean Scream "YEEEAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!" and an occasional fat ted kennedy "Hello!? ..... Hello!?"
He is crackin' me up when he does that. Hilarious!
Just a little humor, folks.
On his show, Rush is always saying Hi! Hire you?
(Hi! How are you? A little Southern humor, haha!) .....
'Twas nothing, glad to be of assistance.
Sorry I can't help you.
You might try Diogenesis
Now I have a question anyone that knows the answer. What in the world is going on in this picture? It looks like someone played a trick on them and taught them a gesture they didn't understand. Whatever was going it, it's a great picture.
Thank you so much, texasflower. I think now I have enough ammo ;) for what I said to be able to forward this to the talk show host.
But may I say, what a beautiful thing to see the Red White & Blue on the streets of Beirut. I think they know where they can look to for support.
I gotta say... when I was home a couple of weeks ago... How I loved seeing Old Glory everywhere. On almost every other person's house.
Yeah, a lot of people let the flag go into tatters, which totally sucks. But they've got their heart in the right place.
So anyway, thanks everyone, and if anyone sees a good picture, please continue to post it.
You can always count on Freepers... :)
"Sorry I can't help you. You might try Diogenesis."
Thank you, Tonk. I appreciate this.
And I love your tagline.
We can never thank our brave service men and women enough.
Right after 9/11, I wanted to rush out and volunteer for duty.
However, I was, at the time, a 40 + year old, out of shape housewife.
And I'm not getting any better. ;)
But I do have cousins and family friends who served in Vietnam and got spit on when they returned....
I just want to thank you.
But, I guess, I digress....
You are very welcome and I must say you seem to be one of the most polite people I have "met" in a long time.
It's been a pleasure talking to you.
Tammy
