This morning I was a caller on Lowell Green's radio show (CFRA, Ottawa, Canada). He is a right-wing host and a strong supporter of the United States.
The question on the table this morning was "Are Canadians more apathetic about their government than Americans. If so, why?"
So, as always when the issue of the differences between the two countries and our relationship comes up, I had to call. :)
I said, "Canadians have never had to fight for anything. They didn't have to fight for their independence from England; they don't have to work for their national defense because that's provided by the U.S."
(I should have also added that Canada didn't have to fight the bloodiest battle in its history to preserve itself as a united country. And yes, I know that the South didn't see it that way. But I think everyone can agree that the Civil War was a crucial milestone in the way we defined ourselves as a nation. But I digress...).
Then I said, "Canadians should think about what they want their country to stand for. There were American flags at the Beirut anti-Syrian demonstration, but if you check the video footage, there was the Canadian flag flying at the funeral of Yasser Arafat."
Now, I KNOW I saw those images. I saw a picture of the American flag in Lebanon on FR, but so far I can't find the thread.
And I know that I saw the Canadian flag on the CNN footage and am almost positive that someone posted a picture of the Maple Leaf being flown in that mob scene that was Arafat's funeral.
I want to send Lowell a confirmation of this but so far, I haven't happened upon the right thread.
*your=you're
That is a great picture. I had never seen it before.
Thank you!
I'm sure Lowell would enjoy the Lebanese Babes for Freedom threads, LOL!
"I love a good puzzle."
I don't know how old you are, but are you, by any chance, a fan of Nancy Drew, Encyclopedia Brown and of course, Sherlock Holmes? ;)
I was never a Nancy Drew fan, but Encyclopedia Brown sounds really familiar. I think I'm just obsessive. "Must....find...picture...." LOL!
Bumping along!
"Encyclopedia Brown sounds really familiar. I think I'm just obsessive. "Must....find...picture...." LOL!"
LOL, now you've got me going, I may have to start surfing for that 9 year-old detective! :)
He was one of my favorites, even though I was a girl. :)
Thank you so much for the bump, MeekOneGOP! :)
Take care...

God bless the U.S.A.
The Lebanese know they can count on us if they need us, at least while GWB is president.
