Blame "too loud" on the guys running the sound board. "Too fast" is a result of trying to squeeze 9 songs into one hour when they're already spending 30 minutes on commercials and self-promotion.
Song sabotage:
Remember Clay Aiken being saddled with Don McLean's "Vincent"?
Ken, thanks for the links to the interesting articles, and jonny, thanks for the ping. While Kelly is not quite there yet, she certainly seems on her way to superstardom.
Speaking of superstars, I think we may have witnessed the beginnings of one last night on AI. I don't know what got into Bo these last few weeks, but he has far, far surpassed Carrie and Vonzell.
Remember a few weeks ago when Bo had only a so-so night, and Paula asked him if he wanted it? He said yes, and ever since then, he's been performing at a totally different level than anyone else. I think he may have won the competition last night. It takes more than a technically great voice to be a successful singer/performer. The history of pop/rock music is crammed with big stars whose singing voices were only so-so.
To use an old vaudville term, you've got to be able to sell -- to put over -- a song. Rule #1 is that you have to be an entertainer. Bo's voice is good, but not spectacular. However, he is a true world-class entertainer.
Carrie is beautiful, very talented, and I really like her. But she's just the opposite of Bo. She has a fabulous voice, but just doesn't "put over" most of her songs. In the end, I think that will defeat her.
I expect Vonzell to go tonight -- unless U.S. Postal workers push her past Carrie. I saw a clip on the local news in L.A. last night that showed area postal workers all geared up to vote for Vonzell. As we know from the political arena, unions can be a powerful get-out-the-vote force.
Vonzell is a very pretty girl with better-than-average talent. But anyone who's being honest would have to admit she's definitely a cut below Carrie, let alone the levels Bo has reached at this point in the competition.
If America gets it right, it will be a Bo-Carrie final. At this point, I just don't see Carrie finding that extra something she needs to outperform Bo. If he does another masterful performance next week, I make it 90% certain he wins.
A final word re Carrie: I watched most of last nights Country Music awards. The hottest sound right now is "country rock," or "southern rock." Montgomery Gentry's "Gone" is a great example of this sound. It actually has much in common early rock-and-roll. Pop-rock is also making a strong comeback, perhaps as an antidote to the mostly ugly urban type of music. Bubblegum pop seems to be dying, if not dead. Carrie could do well with the country rock sound.
Did you see Nashville Star?.. Carrie is a much better voice than Erica Jo.., but EJ moves well on stage..
It was an interesting piece. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
My nephew sings a capella, but, I absolutely hated the a capella song Bo did. I found it dry and booooorrriiiinnnggg. again. jmo
I thought Vonzell's first song was particularly crappy.
I think these final three may be established with their styles and may not be so willing to 'change'. As far as I am concerned they haven't improved over the past few weeks. The one that had been improving was sent packing last week.
Everything seems the same type and sound from Bo. Vonzell yells and Carrie just hasn't really impressed me lately. With her I think its song choice and the low notes.
I guess I'm not thrilled with any of their 'styles' or 'total packeage'. They each seem to be lacking something from their package. I've reached the point that I don't care who wins anymore. They all seem to be maintaining their status quo.

Spectacular assessment...excellent review.
Agree with everything you said about the union, too.
Just who ends up going home is anybody's guess...
I think the BAND should take a hike
and give our ears a rest.
Whoever ends up winning, in a way it will be sad.
I'll miss this thread, and your reviews,
and all the fun we had.
My predictions:
Carrie is going home tonight.
Vonzelle might win the entire thing, which would be OK with me as she has that fire that other contestants do not have and might learn to sing really well with adequate coaching. She does, after all, have a full-time job and limited time to practice now.
Bo Beige is overrated and stretched to the max on his talent. Nowhere to go from here with that only sometimes OK voice, mediocre presentation and lousy looks. I truly hope he does not win. But he will, with Vonzella a close second.
Ooooh.. a poetess....very, very nice...you should try a haiku for the final show..
My fingers are sore
From hitting "re-dial" again
And again some more
Oy... et tu, digits?
What phony throb, this win makes
to earn my tired vote.
Vonzelle has practiced that laugh, that wide smile, crinkling up her eyes, like she's in love with the audience. While it's quite disarming, and she's lovely, no doubt about it. But I think this is her way of covering up for vocal mistakes. and Ouch! She makes plenty! I bet she does that big ole grin thing even when she sings at funerals.
The judges seem convinced Bo has won already, but I'm still pulling for Carrie. (BTW.. Seacrest said the three contestants are extremely close in the vote count..separated by only 1%, I think he said. If that's the case, how can the judges be so certain Bo will win?)
HA! "Kevkrom haiku
no match for amateurs is,"
as Yoda would say.
See what you started?
AI reviews in haiku...
Now who'da thunk it?
what I started?.......Have you ever seen any of Laz' haiku threads?...
nope.
when you have a spare minute or so..just type "haiku" into "search"..look for the older threads..
Bo bores me to tears,
Vonzell over sings and yells,
Carrie could improve.
Bo is fun to watch,
Vonzelle has a lot of joy,
Carrie "moans-a-note" so well...
How can just one win?
It's a three-way tie...
(Even tho we have our faves)
