I am in LA, California, and just got the ping. Sounds like an anaphylactic reaction and one that was severe to warrant all that was done and possibly even more but back seat drivers aren't there to see things that others do. I have witnessed several reactions as you just have and most of them were serious. Ask the vet for the Calcium/phosphorus ratio to see the severity of the renal impairment. Your elevations in BUN and Creatinine could be prerenal which is correctable in most cases. Get a T-4 test done on your cat, being 12 yrs old it complicates a lot of what we do. Since you have been working hard as a nurse, whats another test to make sure it (the thyroid) wasn't under the whole mess. You can keep giving the fluids subcutaneously for the next week if you have to, I have had clients do that for over a year keeping their cat alive by diuresis of the kidneys. I feel for both you and the vet; events like this happen when we are trying to prevent a problem and create one. No one can see into the future...The liver enzymes should also return to normal within a couple of weeks if this was due to the vaccine. I believe that your vet would concur, we will see democrats being honest before I would revaccinate your buddy again.
Good luck to you and your kitty. You are a good nurse from what I can tell and all doctors know that its the nurses that do all of the work.

It's good to hear that Casey is getting (somewhat) better. We will keep the power of the FR prayer going! Between your care (I wouldn't know how to do what you're doing)and our prayer, Casey is in good hands!

UPDATE 15 MAR 05, 1102PM CST
Well, its way past my bedtime, but I am up observing Casey. I guess this might be the weirdest thing ever to be requested but prayers may be needed for purring, peeing, and poop....things that Casey has not done much of today.
I fed her the prescribed regimine of 90CC's of canned wet science diet k/d cat food spread over three (3) meals. I am also in possession of Dexetrol (sp) IV bag that I am injecting into her little leg stint for intraveinous fluid (no more sub-q). She gets a little dose of hepatrin (1/2 cc) before and after her 35 min. IV session in which I give x2 a day for a total of 200 ml.
She is not eating very well, and it is very stressful and has got to be painful for her with that darn plastic syringe that I hold her down and squirt down her throat. She laps and spits up most of it and doesnt swallow all of it. It makes a huge mess and is very, very frustrating.
I am going to the vet tommorrow to check her numbers again, and will ask if there is a better force feeding option such as a jaw brace and a rubber tube down to her stomach. It takes 30 mins or more to get 30 cc's of watered down k/d cat food down her throat. I know her little gums and lips have got to be sore from all the prodding and poking. I am just hoping that there is a better way than a hard, cold, plastic syringe.
Luckily I observed her urinate twice today, but no poop. She is struggling right now next to the litter box, because she keeps going in, digging a hole, and hovering like she wants to poop, but comes out of the litter box exhausted for 20 mins until she tries again. I guess she is constipated. Could it be the tablespoon of nutrical she is getting x3 times a day? It has got to be painful and frustraiting.
Anyways, we are ALONG way from being out of the woods. Today she was very lethargic and didn't move around to much. My mom took over for a few hours and thought she was not having a very good day.
Please keep up the prayers since I am sure that that is the only thing that is going right. Please pray for my Mother, Ann also, since she lost her 18 year old cat last month, and this is kinda like a flash back for her. I appreciate her help and your prayers/advice greatly.
Thanks again, God Bless, and goodnight.
Chris

I join with the others here praying for you and your mom and for your beloved companion.

More prayers are coming your way, I hope Casey pulls out of that funk she is in. I've had a total of 10 cats in my life so far, I lost one at the age of 10 in 1994 to cancer and of course I told you about Muffin. I still have 8 cats, Pansy is out oldest, she will be 18 this August, looks like a little kitten and acts like one, runs around like you tied a tin can to her tail, she acts young. Also loves to holler as she plays with a ball at 3 AM. One bad thing though, you got to watch out for her, well, it's the same with the other cats, I stepped on her tail while walking to the bathroom at 1 AM last night, glad I was in my bare feet. My second oldest, Corky who will be 16 in May, just hopped on my lap as I type this, she is on my laptop and it is tough to type, wish they had mind control keyboards. Corky is on me a lot when I go online. My maternal grandmother did in 1997 on March 24, ever since that night, Corky sleeps in my arms like a teddy bear.
Pansy, born 8-19-1987, she shares a birthday with, ummm, Bill Clinton and Tipper Gore, well Mom got her from a very liberal co-worker too, but she is a "Reagan and Viking Kitty" all the way through
Corky, born 5-12-1989

Praying Fervently for your sweet little Kitty!

Heavenly Father, we return to thank You for the love You have given us for our little companions ... how we rejoice when all is well, and how we suffer when it is not. We pray for Your healing hand to rest mightily upon Casey, O God ... strengthen her during the night, that she would be able to return to a measure of health tomorrow. Cause her to respond to all that Chris is doing for her ... may the lab report be encouraging ... may she regain the normal functions of her body. Thank You that Your mercy is extended to all of creation ... shower Casey and Chris and his Mom with an extra measure of mercy this night, O God, that they might rejoice in renewed health. In the Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen ...

do you always have to bring me to tears? ;) Thanks!
Bad news though, Casey just had a bowel movement with much strain and I noticed a little blood in the stool.
Any recommendations on what that might be? Or is it just the strain of this illness?

Thank you for the update. I've been thinking about Casey all day. I Say a prayer for her every time I tend to my own (3) kitties. I'll add your mom to my prayers for you and Casey. You'll be amazed at the power of prayer and FR!

No idea what that might be, Chris ... I pray that she rests well this night and that you can be in touch with your vet first thing in the morning.

May God hold your kitty close to Him now and restore her to health. May He comfort her as she endures this treatment that she cannot understand, in Jesus' name.

Re this poor cat, I didn't say so to Chris, but if it was my beloved pet, I would not continue this treatment. It sounds to me like the cat has cancer and should probably be allowed to go quietly.

Good morning, my FRiend. My kitty occasionally has a little bit of blood in his stool when he's constipated -- it may just be irritation. I hope the bowel movement is good news.
Still praying for Casey, and for you and your mom.

I agree with ellery. My cats have also, through the years, have had a little blood in their stools. It has been attributed to straining to go when constipated. Let's pray this is all it indicates.
