A man cooking in his kitchen was shot after one of his cats knocked his 9mm handgun onto the floor, discharging the weapon, Michigan State Police said. Joseph Stanton, 29, of Bates Township in Iron County, was shot in his lower torso around 6 p.m. Tuesday, the state police post in Iron River reported. He was transported to Iron County Community Hospital. Michelle Sand, a spokeswoman at the Iron River hospital, said Stanton was treated there before being transferred to Marquette General Hospital for further treatment. But Marcie Miller, a representative of the Marquette facility, said there was no record of the hospital receiving a patient by that name. A telephone message seeking comment was left Wednesday at Stanton's home. State police said he was cooking at his stove when the cat knocked the loaded gun off the kitchen counter behind him.

A Viking Kitty has no patience when his food hasn't been prepared on time.
Garfield really crossed the line this time.
When legal gun-toting cats are outlawed only outlaw cats will have guns.
(did I get that right?ha)
Must've been a troll!
that's what happens when you leave a loaded 9mm on the counter with the safety off.
This is hard to believe, that a gun would just go off, from dropping. Something is just not right with his story.
Enlighten me, on the possibility, of this happening. There have been stories, of dogs knocking shotguns and rifles down, going off and shooting hunters. Unless, this gun was defective in some way, why would it go off, without pulling the trigger?
Given your screenname, a lot of gun enthusiasts might hesitate to discuss this topic with you. If your name was HitTargets it would be a different story.
This thread is screaming for a visit from the Viking Kitties and requires a picture of the kitty aiming the assault rifle. This is also another reason why dogs are better to have around the house than cats. You never hear of a dog shooting its owner.
Yoopers.
Maybe not around the house, but there are many cases of hunters in the field being shot by their dogs.
A dog would never do something like that.
Sincerely,
Odie
Somebody has to say it-sorry moderators-the devil is making me do this........
Thats a loooooooooooooooooot of pussy.
You'll get my cat's gun when you pry it from her cold dead claws.
Beats me. I've heard these kinds of stories all my life. I've never had it happen to me. I've been shooting most of my life. I've dropped and knocked over a few guns in all that time. Not one ever discharged.
....No word as yet if charges will be brought against Mr. Whiskers.....
