I know such rape is common and I'm sorry it happened with you.
What would you tell women to help keep them from being targets? Also, what would you want men to do?

Surprised this thread's still here!
Don't you think this is something best discussed elsewhere, or with a P-sychiatrist?

I am not a female but your point is well taken. Unfortunately, as in many kinds of situations, the few make it hard for the rest. Some scream rape falsely. Some cry abuse falsely. Some steal. Some cheat. Some take steroids. Those people make it difficult for those who don't because society exist mainly within a voluntary social contract, agreeing to act responsibly.
I am sorry you are one of the ones that have suffered but, for my part, I believe you and thank you for warning us all.

I hope that you are now armed, and trained to shoot if it ever becomes necessary.

This comment is in response to an article I recently read on this site when doing a search for rape conviction sentencing. I was horrified to see such a short sighted article, infering based upon the "information" provided that rape accusals are abused and lacking in credibility. If such a thing happened to you, then I know no legitimate person on this site would be against you, and would empathize with you.
However, your lack of reference to the post that upset you, and your being a new signer upper, this initial post seems a bit suspicious.

Your subject is not often or maybe ever covered here.
The tone and tempo is varied ,animated, contentious and infuriating...and at times astoundingly caring.
It's hard to predict how a thread like this will go.
Welcome. Now hang on!

Without a
direct reference (such as a link) to the
original article that caught your attention there is little to be discuss here except opinions ~ which, of course, are
not Breaking News. With a such a direct reference (link) this post may have resulted in an interesting thread.
Why not spend some time on Free Republic reading the articles and comments ~ getting a feel for the place and for the folks who post here. Newbies who've not taken the time required to become aware of (or who are insensitive to) the policies and procedures of FR will find the response to their vanity posts ... en-lightning.

based upon the "information" provided that rape accusals are abused and lacking in credibility.
Sadly, a large number of them (up to half in some studies) do turn out to be bogus, where "bogus" means there is no physical evidence that a crime occurred, there are no third-party witnesses, and the accuser subsequently and unambiguously recants the charge. Why do women bring these false charges? The top 3 reasons given are spite, anger, and to have an alibi.
The women who do this make it very difficult for women who are actually raped. The ones who don't recant are even worse. How many of these stories do we want to read?
(AP) A man convicted 11 years ago when a teenage girl identified him as her rapist left court a free man Monday after a judge was told DNA tests showed he had not committed the crime. "It feels good," said Michael Mercer, 53, who was freed at the request of the Manhattan district attorney's office.
State Supreme Court Justice Leslie Crocker, in granting the motion to end Mercer's time behind bars, said: "Obviously a terrible mistake was made."
This is a tough thing for the authorities to sort out.

I can't find an article post on the system that would match up with your concern. I've used your title elements and the "rape sentencing" you mentioned for your research.
Are you posting on the right website?

Also there is also a little something called "Date Rape." A woman drinks way too much and it doesn't matter if the man is also intoxicated. If they end up sleeping together, it is rape.
Crap.
If she doesn't say no and is not forced or surreptitiously drugged it's not rape.
You cheapen the horror of real rape by allowing irresponsible people to claim ex post facto rape after they change their minds later.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1334915/posts#1 February 3, 2005 -- Kobe Bryant's accuser unexpectedly showed up at yesterday's pretrial hearing in her sex-assault civil suit, wearing a wedding ring, with a nervous husband at her side and a baby on the way.

The bimbo, her druggie husband and their soon to be born crack baby continue their quest for the gold. This makes me want to puke.

Wow! This is how callous it can actually get I guess. I am vicious when I attack the Democrats on FR. But this is a different situation. This is a human being who at the very least MAY have been raped (I believe personally that she was). You guys are joking about her, posting things like "pearl necklace, calling me ignorant, etc. The only point of contention you have is statements made by the defense attorney. Before you callously attack the girl, why don't we see if what they are saying is true?
