Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And take the hidden paths that run...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

For the record the project the elastic was for was modifying some GI issue flying gloves to fit better. And the last thing I sewed was a CQB knife sheath that did not hold the knife in well enough. and I had to LEARN to sew because mom made us sew on all our Boy Scout merit badges.
Is that better?

Nothin' wrong with having those items. Nothing wrong with knowin' how to use them.
It's the fact that you've got a ~sewing drawer~ that gives pause for concern.

Mom tried to teach me to sew. She failed. Now I wish I could so I could make myself costumes... half of the you-know-what club is going to the con next year as the Bleach characters.

Maybe we can find someone that gives lessons.
I'd like to learn, too! I can figure out how to sew on a button, but that's as far as I've ever gotten, and I'd really like to be able to make simple things.

Well the same draw has shoe polish, electrical tie-raps and duct tape... I also have a GPS drawer a couple of combat knife draws, a bunch of electrical devices drawers, and a few handgun drawers. Drawers are handy.

I figure my problem is twofold: 1, I can't cut, and 2, when I use a needle it ends up in my fingers. Theoretically it's not hard, with a pattern. I even made a skirt once. It took like six months and didn't look that great.

Speaking of furniture, we've got to get something soon. I need to get organized. Maybe when I get home we'll go questing.

Oh! I didn't tell that we went to our first Anime convention last weekend. It was put on by an Anime group that meets over at the University of Central Florida.
Here's a link to their site: JACON
We had a really good time. When I get some pics scanned I'll post a few of them. The costumes some these people had were incredible. The most popular, going by costume was Inuyasha and Kagome. The next most popular costume was Ed Elric. There was one group that had almost everybody represented: Ed, Mustang, Hawkeye, Hughes, Sensei, Lust, Greed, and Envy.....no Al.
My daughter made herself a costume of Yuna from the game Final Fantasy X. She must have had at least 20 requests for her picture. She did a really good job on her costume.
We'll probably go again next year.
Corin would have liked this one event called the Wasabi Animusical. What they did was have an hour long show which combined show tunes and anime. Our favorite was the song "Tomorrow" (from Annie) with Cowboy Beebop. Annie comes out and starts singing "Tomorrow" when she gets to the end of the chorus Vince from Cowboy Beebop walks out and shoots her with his pistol. It was very funny. Unfortunately copyright issues make it so they won't make any videos available.

Mom tried to teach me to sew. She failed. Wife isn't the sewing type neither. I sewed on most of Jr's Cub Scout patches. We hand the mending to Nana now. It works. Keeps her fingers nimble.
But Nana has one of those collquialisms about women who sew. She'll say things like "She made that outfit. She's so smart." Implying that women (like the Missus) who didn't sew were not as "smart."

Find a fabric or sewing machine store. If they don't give lessons they will know who does.

I like having places for everything. Right now, I have no places, and it's irritating.
The dwarves are just confused 'cause they don't use drawers...
