The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You know, my matron of honor was... was beautiful, like the way Delta Burke was beautiful, but still very full figured. There was no way I could comfortably pick out a dress for her...I had no idea how to! So I just told her "Hunter green". She picked out her own gorgeous tea-length satin gown.

I didn't have any other bridesmaids, so she didn't have to "match" anyone.

I did that with Sonya too, told her to find either a cotton sundress or a hawaiian shirt and shorts, whatever she wanted to do.

Of course... I got a raft of crap for not being specific enough, I am not sure why folk didn't believe that I really didn't care what they wore!

All you ladies looked great. Course I still felt like a pig in shrink wrap, till I changed clothes. I had dreams of losing weight for the wedding... they just didn't materialize into a dress that fit. I should have got a size bigger too. :~D

I think if I get married I shall make my bridesmaids wear sacks ;-)

Honestly, when you get married, the kindest thing to do would be to let your good friends just come to the wedding and sit and watch in comfort rather than having to be bridesmaids. Pick one person you don't really like and make her wear the torture gown. ;~D

Maybe somewhere there are women who just love to be bridesmaids, but I've never talked to one. They do it because it's an honor to be asked and they feel like they have to, but they hate it ;~D

Well, I'll worry about that if the time ever comes.

You would think that guys would not have to deal with that but somehow at my brothers wedding they got the sizes a bit small and the shirt was way small. And I don't mean the mid-section since I did not have much there back then. I could not button the neck or wrists at all and had to breath shallow. i guess they did not know how to take measurements properly or something.

I've never had a rental tux fit right. I owned my own in college (yes, it was black, but the shirt had the ruffles).

I kept saying I'd buy one when I lost 100 lbs. But, since I wear one 3-4 times a year now I bought my own. Sadly, it still fits...

Well, yeah, but it is depressing to be almost 22 and nobody's even ever asked me out. Unless you count the pathetic middle-aged balding guys.

At this point, I'd be OK with pathetic middle-aged balding guys, so long as they were series Catholics...

Heh...cats are kinda like kids. I just got out a brand new toy mouse for Tam, who halfheartedly batted it around a few times, but now he's going NUTS playing with...an old twist-tie. He's tossing it in the air, dropping it and stalking it, and just generally going insane.

So much for PAYING for toys.

I understand 15 years more than you think.

Well, keep your welcome mat out, the one with the smilie faces on it, not the one that says "Keep out" :~D

And if all else fails... you ~could~ ask him out. Standing on principle is sometimes a lonely job ;~D

Just got the word...

Apparently my Tulsa Black Hawk unit is being deployed...the guy that dropped by the house to invite us to tour the unit told a friend of mine, who's mother is his neighbor.

I know this sounds silly, but I don't want them to go! Will that mean they won't be flying over my house? I'll miss them so much!

Well, it'll be kindof out of their way, but you never know :~D

We'll pray for their safety.

You know, we're very emotionally involved with them...well, ok...I'm very emotionally involved with them, whether they really realize it or not...I've been cheering and praying for these guys for gosh, YEARS now!

My friend, who's mother lives next door to Danny, said that he told her when she was over there visiting her mother. He's not a young guy...he's maybe late 50s...his wife is not happy, obviously.

She also said he showed her his knife!

This is the girl I was visiting and the chopper flew over and I just jumped up and ran out of her house unexpectedly! She was startled, but after I told her the story, she understood. Then just a bit later in the conversation, she told me about the guy that lived next to her mom and it ended up being the guy that invited us to tour the ARNG unit.

Hah! Sorry but I am 28 and have never 'asked anyone out'.. not the 'cold call' sense of the term anyway. Although did do the courtship asking thing... I think that takes more guts. I got the 'not now, maybe later'. Which meant, 'I don't want to think about that stuff now.' She was working on getting into grad school. I am not really sure why she is working on a PHD she does not really plan to use but that is her business I guess. I have enough requirements that I would have to know a girl fairly well to know if it was worth going for. And by then she would probably know I am after her anyway.

The only one mine went nuts over was the elastic dangly mouse that hung from a door frame. They loved that but constantly sliced through the elastic.

Between you and me, if my middle-aged bald guy got much sexier, I wouldn't be able to stand it!
