The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Oh, man.... that's really lousy.

We need to start planning the '06 moot now so hopefully more of us can get there.

Slap Corin with an -ish.

I'm taking my software patterns book along to study in case she gets in late. With a test this week, can't afford to waste time doing nothing...

Well, part of the reason is that we're also planning what we're doing as a family next year.

It's the Disney year for the boys. It's our last chance to do that before Jr. graduates (work with me here). So we already know we won't be doing the beach. But the Music and Fine Arts Dept is taking a cruise in February. We're hoping to use our Marriott points to cover it.

BUT, I am vey series about rafting the canyon for my 50th, which would be 2008.

Also, wouldn't the rotation for Mooting bring things back to the East? (Entmoot ~ Wedding Moot ~ Shoot Moot)

I'd like to raft the canyon in 08.

I'm still putting off any final declaration one way or the other on whether I can make shootmoot. Trying to let things take their course and it will either work or not work! But all my plans for extra money and time bring me to thoughts of horse trailers and trail riding this year. Has to be this year.

I understand the money/horse issues. Although I would never punish a horse by putting me on its back.

The reality is for me is that I just need to keep things as simple as possible. Money is working out better than I'd thought (for Brazil, etc). BUT, we've got to at a minimum repair and replace the kitchen floor and replace the back atrium door. If we don't the house will cave in.

Like I said, I'm most serious about rafting the canyon. It's been a dream of mine for more than 20 years. I'll do some more research.

I gotta go. The funeral is at 2:00 p.m.

Something my ex-FIL (may he rest in peace) used to say.

I asked him what it meant and he asked me if'n I'd ever been around a guava tree. I replied that I hadn't and he informed me that overripe and rotting guavas on the ground smell exactly like cat crap.

Riddle solved!

I still have a small grain of hope that I'll be able to pull it off, but it's highly unlikely.

Next year just ~has~ to get better than this year has been so far.

I hope you can go.

I am gonna go out and get started on outdoor chores... The lawnmower is fixed and it has stopped raining. It's almost dry enough to mow. If I don't mow this week, I'm gonna have to bale it.

Tis a good thing to be most serious about. The canyon is an amazing place and you'll have a great time.

(I've never rafted the canyon, just soaked some tired feets in the river....)

I wonder if you can raise catfish in an above ground pool...

small ones probably.... there's a species of catfish that is fish-tank size and can get big if it's in a big tank.

Not noodling size, perhaps, but you could let it grab your finger. ;~D

My lawn's all mowed, and I need a bath, bad.

I've never tried raising catfish, but am fairly sure you could do it above ground. If the hole is not too hard to dig, there are some advantages to doing it in ground, though.
