Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And take the hidden paths that run...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

One of the cell phone companies is re-tooling their transmission network in the area... the time for changes to be made is 11:00 pm Friday night to 6:00 am Saturday morning. I'm on one of the test teams which will be in the field testing reception ("Can you hear me now?") during and after the changes. Which means I get to drive to Waco in about an hour and a half and spend the night driving around and around and around.
I'm not the testing technician, I'm the driver. Right now, I'm soooo glad I spent four years getting myself a college edumacayshun.

Well, sometimes the old man confuses things. The tinnutis is likely from gun fire, and riding in a noisy truck for long periods. We did have tons of mortar fire, but never close enough for that. The rash hasnt been diagnosed. I believe it is from daily benzine exposure, as that was primarily what we hauled. What dad was talking about on my face has actually been on my face, hand, shoulder, arm, and about six different spots on my leg. It has left scars in each spot, and even ruined my Vegas vacation when my eye swelled shut. They are painful when they get going. The VA believes it is leishmaniasis from sand fly bites, but they havent been successful in getting a good biopsy. I have some severe joint pain in my right wrist that the VA cant quite get a grip on. Other than that I see a counsler once a month at the VA to talk about some recurring dreams I have. I dont like her, but she is the stepping stone to seeing a doctor. Sorry I havent been FReeping lately. I am back to work, and work is good. I really love what I do and now realize how much I missed it. How'd ya like my pic in the paper. It was a lot of fun raiding the school and all. Crystal is good, but she is going through her usual post hockey season depression. We didnt make the playoffs, but I still enjoyed the season. I have something for you when I get it finished. Slow going here, I have a years worth of yard work to catch up on. I will need a favor from bruce though, so look for a FReepmail. Pass this on to anyone I may have missed. Talk to ya soon.
Steve

Good to hear from you smaagee! Will pray for good health and happiness for you, and I know the rest will be joining me in that... especially the really good people who's prayers get read first. ;~D
Do you still hear from the other guys we met? Say hello to them for us if you do. And go easy on your ole dad!
To: HairOfTheDog
We will all see each other tommorrow, it is our training weekend. We had a wedding last month and were all together then. It was pretty cool

Hey Steve! Great to hear from you!
I hope the VA treats you well. They better... though bureaucracies can really suck. If there's anyone we can endlessly annoy to get paperwork moving, maybe we can be of assistance. :-)
You know... I had some experience with some pretty nasty biting sand fleas in Florida. Tore up my legs pretty good. Ask anybody that was at the wedding. I had no idea those little buggers could do that.
Little Iraqi sand fleas (flies?) gotta be pretty nasty. Distinguishable from western sand fleas by the itty bitty little turbans. :-)

How's homeschooling going with Erin? It's smoothing out, although I have decided I am not going to return to the Seton program. I went with a friend to a Homeschool Supply store in the north part of Houston, and learned that the writers of The Well Trained Mind have revised and updated their book AND created textbooks/workbooks to use in conjunction with the other source material they recommend. I am not happy with the way Seton has organized some of its material, and I find myself going to other sources to help explain grammatical lessons that are in the the material provided. She loves the vocabulary workbook though and will volunteer to do extra lessons, so I have been letting her run with it. We are about halfway through the math, and she has been getting discouraged with it, partly because a lot of it she already knows and I think (this is my theory) its because she also hasnt been seeing her results. The blame for that rests totally on me because I have been making her take the tests (which are supposed to be given every five chapters, I found out) two at a time, and I havent been grading them because I think I am supposed to send those in for grading...although I havent yet, because the directions on the site are not very good at explaining what to do. I resent having to wade through the huge planner to find out a simple answer, and since we startd in the middle of the year, I am still trying to weed my way through what she knows and what she doesnt know.
I know I am gritching a lot here, but am really feeling this curriculum will not benefit her the way I think she would. I am discovering she likes doing paperwork and puzzles and enjoys writing stuff.
Sorry to gritch. The homeschooling itself is going very well, although we have been having some slow days and she gets a little antsy about not being in a regular classroom environment.

I'm getting there... though this wasn't all that stressful of a week. Da boss never even called once all week. 'course that means that the next phonecall will be that much more intense.
He's a very intense dude. Giving 'the report' is sorta like swearing in for cross-examination.
