The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

G'morning!

Just checking in while I have a minute.

Man, we're on thread XX already?

Maybe when we get to XXX ecurbh can stick a picture of Vin Diesel at our front door.

My top two favorites are "And Can it Be" and "It is Well with My Soul."

Two fine hymns. "And Can It Be" was my college class hymn. "It Is Well" was the missus class hymn.

Glad you can enjoy the fine works of Charles Wesley ksen.

Can you imagine the lahar that would come down the mountain from the combination of snowpack and pieces of the mountain sliding down?

I've seen it!

Good morning, all!

Hopefully it was not a smiley you used a lot like your little angel?

No, most of the ones I use a lot I upload to my server. This ~was~ just a jack o'lantern smilie. Used it a couple of times around last Halloween.

Hey Bear, can you figger out where we were in the threads around Halloween of last year? Maybe I should consider pinging the mods...

Charles Wesley was an excellent hymn writer. I like Isaac Watts, Fanny Crosby, and Martin Luther as well.

SuziQ may not be too crazy about Martin Luther though. ;^)

I love that hymn. Another favorite, that doesn't seem like it would be suitable for Christmas, but it is, is "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence". Seems like a dirge, but the words are perfect for Christmas. I love the Gustav Holst arrangement for SATB.

Mm, I love that one too! There are some truly gorgeous minor key hymns out there...

You're a lot better off than your friend is!

Did you listen to Glenn Beck the day he made Stu pay up for when the Eagles lost the Super Bowl?

Stu went to a famous Philly Cheesesteak place, while wearing a Patriots World Championship jersey, and said to the owner:

Stu: "I'd like a McNabb sandwich."
Owner: "A McNabb sandwich?"
Stu: "Yeah, the kind that makes you choke."

I think that day was the closest Stu had come to being beat up on the show.
