The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

See? That is what shootmoot is for! I just happen to have a couple .45's and an NRA pistol instructor certification.

:D

I went shooting once. Hated the handguns. Hated them. I just couldn't get used to the noise and would flinch.

However I absolutely loved the rifles, especially the one with a scope. Wouldn't mind some real trainin', though. Bet Rosie would too. You and g'nad between you should work up a course for us n00bs.

What I learned in that class is much better for getting new people into handguns. It turns out that handing someone a big gun and then laughing when it scares the cr@p out of them is NOT the best way to teach. Who knew?

They weren't that bad... they just weren't me. I'm willing to give them another try, though!

Jr: "Where's Mom? I'm locked out."

Corin: "Luke had a drs. appointment. Try to stay dry."

Sounds like just about *exactly* what you wanted, no? Decent sized without being tiny, and with plenty of shop space. Does it have a little bit of land, too?

My house (former house, I should say) was built in the 50s, too.

The only real shooting I've ever done was qualifying with an M-16 in the Air Force. I know next to nothing about handguns and such, and haven't yet found someone who's willing to explain stuff from square one without either talking over my head in order to sound superior or else dumbing things down to the point where I learn nothing. Hoping Shootmoot won't involve either of those things! ;-)

I have Verizon. It's the plan where the whole state of Texas is my local calling area. I never call out of state, so I can't recommend Verizon for any other plan.

Consider how much state to state calling you will probably be doing. See if you can get a plan that will give you coast-to-coast local calling if you think you will be calling home very often, or if you think you might be doing some traveling.

I think I'm talking to myself...

Wife is at ENT with Luke. His appointment was at 2:00 p.m. They got there 15 minutes early. The dr. JUST NOW came in...

Fixing to take Clare to Anime Movie Night at the local high school. It's sponsored by the Anime Club that she's in. I get to chaperone! Woo Hoo! She's going to try to teach me to knit so I'll have something to do during the 5 hours I'm there!;o) Gonna take a book, too, but will likely end up chit-chatting with my friend, Gina, another homeschool mom who offered to chaperone. ;o)

Goood evenin' all. TGIF!

Big'ol is taking me on a date tonite - dinner & a movie. We're gonna see "Fever Pitch". With him being a rabid Red Sox fan and me being completely ambivilant about the sport, it should be a fun movie. :)

Was scrolling through threads and I have to shake my head at those tacky fundraising pictures. I just don't *get* some of them. Like the out-of-date 80's lady in the red hat. Is she supposed to be alluring? If not, what is *the* point of the pic? What about the gal in the travel trailer? What is that all about? And the pic of the travel trailer itself? Did some freeper just grab that out of a pile of family photos? And the girl in the cowboy hat? Are we supposed to know her? Is she some Freeper's grandkid or something? And the tackier ones always seem to cycle up on the threads at the most inappropriate times. If I were to rant like this on another thread, folks would just say "shaddup and donate already!" Fine, whatever, I do. But am I alone in wanting the Ostrich Chick to come back?????

Tanks for the rant.

As usual, I'm just wanting the FReepathon to be over. I'm not giving more, I'm not giving less. And this one has been darn slow.

Lemme know about the movie. Jr. was talkin' about it. Didn't they have to re-write it some 'cause the Sox actually won?

I'm outta here...

Yup. Had to redo the ending. Actually shot it during the world series... so all the celebrations on the field isn't acting - it's real time. That's pretty neat.

Yeah the red sox won, the writers/producers never saw that one coming.
