The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

My brother in law (Steve's brother) doesn't believe in an after-life...I was telling him about this kind of stuff and he was just amazed. Said "I wonder if there has been any kind of study of this kind of thing?" (Heh, he is a research doctor of psychology.) I told him I didn't know, but that you can talk to any nurse and she'll have stories to tell.

Shortly before my little brother, who had a really massive heart problem, died, my mother was in church. She had something close to a vision, she says, and had the feeling that she'd been told "I love him more than you do". And at first thought it meant that Sam was going to be healed. But then when he died she felt immediately comforted, because she knew he was healed, in Heaven.

Since none of our family talks to the rest of it, I have no clue whether my great-grandmothers or uncle had any clue that it was time or not.

I think the reality is the "other side" is a lot closer than we might think.

This isn't a death story, but an older man at church who has been in a wheelchair for 7-8 years recently had to have his leg amputated above the knee.

He said he was praying a few days before his doctor's appointment and the Lord told him "Will, you're going to lose that leg." So that when he went in to see the doctor, he'd already accepted it.

The doctor said, "I'm afraid you're going to lose the leg."

Will said, "I know."

Doctor, "I don't think you understand."

Will, "No, I do. And it's alright."

It's very comforting to have something like that to hold on to.

Definitely. It always seems like a lot, but I don't think we're given more than we can handle. Or if we are, we're given the grace to get us through.

It's very comforting

That it is.

The jedis won't be home from the outing with my folks for two more hours.

I just called. He's done, but they said he was still really drunk and so he doesn't miss us yet. I said I was willing to pick him up drunk but they said he's no walking yet and they have rules that he has to be walking ;~D

They want us to come at 5 so I'll pick you up first.

I have a feeling he was bad enough for them just getting the drugs in him. She sympathized with what a difficult patient he is and they'll be sending us home with doggie downers so we can keep him treated.

If we're half the people I think we are, I think we owe him a knife. ;-)

Freepmail already sent out to him. I don't know if he'll respond.

You know, since he was a stray, it's quite possible he was abused. Our cat is like that.

She ~loves~ to be on your lap. But only on her terms. She has never liked being picked up by anyone. I still have the scars from her last Frontline treatment.

She was a stray and was living outside a law office with some dogs. But we think there must have been some abuse along the way.

He's probably had bad ear infections before, and a less-than-graceful treatment of it. He gets so afraid he scrambles like his life depends on it.

He's also a drama queen... Yes, he's probably been abused, and yes, he's a fairly delicate soul. I don't know where he's been, but his personality has a lot of sadness in it. I keep saying he's an old soul. He's seen things that still trouble him.

He's an odd counterbalance for Gidget's childlike reckless abandon.
