Nice, sunny day here. I want my sunroom.
First I drove to Royal Gorge. It was something of a disappointment as the good viewing areas were still closed for the season, but the drive there was lovely!
Across the gorge -
And down -
Then on the way back through Colorado Springs I stopped at Garden of the Gods park. That was incredible. It has these absolutely enormous rock formations - sandstone, I think - shooting up out of the earth. Utterly cool.
See what a lovely day it was? For sizes, the right-hand rock was at least a hundred feet high, probably more.
Here I am, looking frumpy in my adventuring hairdo and clothes:
These rocks have been literally thrust up out of the earth. I found it awe-inspiring.
Most of the park had sidewalks and "please do not go outside the fence" signs, but at one end there was a hiking trail that went around some of the larger rocks. Since my blisters were feeling ok, I set off. It went well until I decided to climb up this rock
.
Then I got stuck and sort of lost and ended up wandering around the brush, scrambling up and down rocks. Finally came out at the park road and walked a mile back to the parking lot. On the way back, I ran into these guys:
who apparently have no fear at all of man.
I got sort of sunbaked because I forgot to wear sunblock and then was out longer than planned because of getting lost. Hopefully I'll be ok!
I'm so happy that you're living there, geting to see those wonderful places. I've never been to the Gorge, but I've been to Garden of the Gods. Gorgeous country.
Cool rocks! When are Rosie and Margaret leaving from VT?
Monday, according to the current plan. Hope they feel up for travelling - I've got all my Catholic friends in my prayers right now because I don't have a clue what you-all are going through.
I got it :> ... Ive planted mostly herbs myself : lemon verbena, three kinds of scented geranium, chives, bee balm, catnip, pineapple sage, peach sage, thai basil, genovese basil, wormwood, clary sage, giant hyssop, and an angel trumptet plant. I am hoping this last one will grow big enough soon. It is supposed to have peach-colored flowers. Can't wait to see what it produces.
Am wanting to install a 'disappearing' fountain...but a bit harder than I thought to implement. Also got a real pretty hybiscus tree...
Hope you feel better soon!
Wow, that is an impressive gorge! Looks like a great day!
Thanks for the heads up - it will just be starting here now.
Of course, I loved the Little House books.... and the TV series.
I always thought the Little House books were a disguised morality play - for instance, be an obnoxiously perfect person and go blind, be obnoxiously self-righteous and have small children chant nasty rhymes at you, be lazy and freeze to death in a blizzard... all they need is a reference to 'Matilda, Who Told Lies and Was Burned to Death" and they're complete.
I never thought Mary was obnoxious.... I just didn't like her as much as Laura.
But you might be right. In hindsight.. there can be a lesson in anything, and maybe she was thinking that when she was writing. :~D
I have faith that God will send the Holy Spirit down upon the Cardinals and they will make the right decision for the Church.
But, thanks for the prayers.
Good! I am glad to hear it. Though I'm sure you don't mind a few prayers on your behalf anyway.
I have one very dear friend who has been concerned about this for some time. She's only been Christian for about three years - gosh, time flies! I've known her for more than five years though we haven't actually met. And she's been very conflicted about this. So I hope I get a chance to talk to her next week - we have a mutual arrangement where we share with each other all the deep spiritual ideas and concerns that we have and that nobody else in our lives wants to hear. (Well, her hubby likes to hear her but she tries things out on me first)
To see a bald eagle at the beach house is fairly common, circling high overhead, fishing. To see one land and perch on your dock is pretty rare... and to have it happen when you have time to find the camera and capture it, even rarer!
As a size reference, the cap rail that he has his talons around is a 2x6.
Cool. Though I don't like eagles. Hawks and falcons are cooler.
But heh, it's a bird even g'nad wouldn't shoot at!
Did I ever tell the story of the time I almost ran over a bald eagle?
I don't think you have... was he eating something in the road?
We had a close up view of one when we were drifting a river once... narrow spot, and he was on the shore eating a salmon... took off when we were only several feet away and came right over us. I thought my little Zulu was gonna leap right out of the boat. ;~D
Yep... I came over a hill on the highway, doing about 55, to see a flock of crows and one bald eagle on the side of the road, picking over something that was dead. The crows scattered off the side of the road, but the bald eagle took off down the road, flying right in front of me, trying to get altitude. I think I touched the brakes, but honestly I was so surprised by the whole scene, and by the fact that the stupid bird kept flying straight down the road rather than veering to one side, that I don't know if I reacted at all. Anyway, he managed to get high enough to clear the roof of my car, saved me from committing a felony.
