The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

That engraving that shows when the knife is closed is really cool looking!

Rosie! You've come to it at last.

Me on the other hand...I'm wondering if it's healthy that my first thought is of semiautomatic weapons ~every time~ I drive into the parking garage...

I was gonna change my tagline for April Fools Day. But with the news coming from Rome, perhaps it should stay for a while.

News is the one thing that may keep me here today. With no TV, limited radio, and no internet at home...it's been hard.

In a way, I almost don't want to follow things closely. But not knowing is even harder.

And then they wonder why they can't sell the stuff.

Good morning! I've lost track... Is today your last day at work?

Thinking of developing a bad cold by lunchtime, though. I doubt anyone'd care...

Or just sit at your desk and scream WOOO HOOOO! every couple minutes. They might ask you to leave before noon ;~D

Being a southern boy with holy roller roots it's a bit difficult for me to comprehend what Catholics might be feeling.

But I understand the significance and the severity.

Heh...except that that's kinda sorta normal behavior around here...

We aren't exactly a quiet, mild-mannered department, though the loudest person is on vacation this week...

I fully expected to wake up to the news that the Pope had died. It's amazing. With a new one, there will have been 6 Popes in my lifetime, so far. I was too young to remember Pius XII, but I was 10 when John XXIII died.

The most astounding time was when Paul VI died and John Paul I became Pope. We were living in Tallahassee at the time, and it was before we had kids, so I was working. I remember, about a month after JPI became Pope, I came in to work, having picked up the newspaper at the front door on the way in. I opened it and saw the headline "Pope Dies". I thought someone had left an old newspaper for us! I was stunned when I realized that it was JPI! I was even MORE stunned a couple of weeks later when I heard the name of the new Pope, and he wasn't an Italian!

We've been so blessed by God with this Pope, but when he goes home, I know God will send the man we need for these tough times.

I may have to try that. I had planned to be off to paint today. But the Boss Troll and Rasputin want to meet with me on a new project (as well as one they screwed up). So I switched and took off yesterday instead.

Rasputin just told me "we may not get to meet today..."

I don't remember when John Paul II became Pope - I was too little, and also my parents weren't Catholic. I can't imagine what it'll feel like for the days or weeks that we have no Pope. And if we're on the road during that time...well, it's just an odd feeling.

I'll be watching the news on here. I brought tunes today 'cause I couldn't stand the thought of listening to Glenn Beck this morning. I know he'll be talking about Terri Schiavo.

And I think it's just time to let her rest. Then we rest and regroup and start kicking out some of these activist judges.

I didn't realize your parents were converts. My Daddy didn't join the Church until about the time I was born. I think he was confirmed the year my oldest sister was. Mama was a cradle Catholic.

We just had my final morning meeting, at the beginning of which the token liberal started off into a rant about April Fool's Day being the most fitting day possible for the Pope to die. I came the closest I've EVER come to throttling him. Managed to just bite my tongue and say "Can we please move on?"

Yeah, my Dad didn't convert until I was five. The four oldest of us kids were baptized at the same time. I remember it.

Mom kinda sorta converted in high school, but I don't think completely understood the faith. She fell away for a lot of years, but came back when Dad joined.

Weird??? Whaddeye miss?

Suzi, I remember JPI too! But I was only seven or so at the time (I think), and I remember all the hubbub about JPII. He has been a very good Pope.

Hows everyone doing?

I'm fixing to leave to take Clare to her writing class, so, in case you decided to cut out early on your last day, I wanted to be sure to say BYE, and have a great trip.
And though your destination is different from the one depicted below, here's hoping you don't look like this by the time you reach CO! LOL! Am praying for a safe one for you and Margaret.
