Steve using the Bug to get me on his good side this morning is funny to me and got me thinking...
As you may (or may not) know, I had a real hard time in my life during the Fall. Went through one of the worst times in my entire life.
As irritated as I get with Steve, he really did a great thing finding and getting me this Bug. It really pulled me out of that hard time in a big way. I hope we get it driving someday, but even if we don't it's been a good experience for me. You probably won't understand, but it symbolizes so much to me. Hope. Determination. Accomplishment. And even defiance.
I really hope we drive it out of the shop someday, though! LOL

I'm out in the shop right now...got the lime green monstrosity (Imac) out here. I keep looking over at the Bug and it just looks so sad. It's windows are filthy...I think I'll clean 'em.

Probably a little silly, though...to wax so philosophical over a car! LOL
But did I tell you? I have been doing a little CSI of my own on this car. Did you know it was originally stolen and ended up in a field...the guy that gave it to Steve was driving by and saw it, he asked the owner of the field if he could have it and she said sure, haul it off, that it had been in her field for as long as she lived there! So the guy hauled it home and ran a inquiry on the VIN number. That's when he found it was stolen and he contacted the rightful owner who said he could just have it. She even sent him the title!
So doing CSI on this car, I have found pennies that date back all the way to 1969, the year before the car was built. The pennies end in 1990. There are two oil change stickers on the inside of the door that date to 1992 and the registration sticker on the window is a '92.
I surmise that this car was stolen and was abandoned in a field sometime in 1992 and has been outside in the elements ever since. I find it to be in remarkably good shape considering.
I think I did mention that I found a Terminator action figure in it, under the back seat? That would date to the 80s, right? Can you imagine, the young boy, perhaps the age of one of my jedis, played with that figure, lost it, and is now a young man?

You probably won't understand, but it symbolizes so much to me. Hope. Determination. Accomplishment. And even defiance. Oh, I understand! At least somewhat. This trip is that for me - there are so many obstacles and so many things I want to run away from...but it will make me stronger, too. I'm facing fears, for once.

Actually, it's happened a LOT before and not just to me. I really don't care if they ban me or not. Most bloggers have more courtesy than the mods at Lcom, though.
