The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Well... us Norwegians don't do so well in the sun, either. Apparently there weren't many tanning beaches up there in them Fjords. It's taken years of burns to figure out how to ease into the base tan veerrrrrry slowly. But it *can* happen.

Less chances for skin cancer if you avoid the sun though, so don't be too eager to tan. My skin is weird. If I don't get some sun, esp on my legs, I get these bumps all over.

Only the sun gets rid of them. No amount of cream or ointment does a thing. Strange that.

Anyway, I'm off to read for a bit and then hit the hay.

Good night you two. See ya tomorrow!

Yup, I've got what my grandmother the Englishwoman calls "English skin". I have burnt through sunblock, burnt when I thought I was only in the sun for an hour... it's not fun. Plus sunburn is one of the triggers for my eye affliction, so I try to stay out of the stuff these days.

Dang, Corin, I'll bet that was a restless night. Sorry to hear about Nana. Prayers for the hip surgery and her speedy recovery.

Wow, the countdown is proceeding. You're down to just the fingers on one hand and only a couple three on the other. RE: the adventure, it'll be a great journey of discovery.

I've even found an adaptor that lets you use 1930-1960 wire-hook stuff (bayonet sheaths were the last to change) on MOLLE. Never know when that might be needed.

Mornin'

S'posed to clear up here. I'll believe it when I see it.

Hospital just called. Nana was supposed to be there at 8:30. They said "can she come now?" Apparently the doctor had a cancellation. Reckon that means we're movin' ahead.

Her face looks awful from the fall the other night. Told her to tell the doctor to get a good look at it, 'cause I'd do that to him if'n he didn't get it right this time.

Gotta go see if'n I can help 'em get outta here...

I think Rosie got pens today. I'm tempted to open the box and take a look!

Ooh, did the Pendemonium order get there already? No pens...but that's my purple ink and a book! Wow...came fast.

Good morning!

Final car prep day: the van is getting the tires swapped.

Need to start making a list of supplies for the trip. I'll forget stuff anyway, but...

I guess you must already be there.

Mrs. is there with her. I hadda come to Fangorn. She should be all checked in now.

Wife was saying last night she hadn't thought about being there alone with her today. She's always felt it a ministry to be there to wait with the family. And she's often been there with friends just to sit with them.

Four siblings, none of 'em here today. And one sister lives in Richmond. Yeah, she's got three little kids, but her husband works from home. She could be there if she wanted to.

The Pastors will stop by, but they can't stay.
