Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And take the hidden paths that run...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

And possibly in Illinois depending on the time of day. Maybe you'll find that all this worry ahead of time makes the actual driving easier! And remember to make Margaret switch off frequently.

I may make Margaret drive during some of the scarier bits. She's younger and less experienced...but a better driver. ;-) Part of this is just that I have trouble judging distances, which means heavy traffic involving lane changes really, really scares me. I'm fine otherwise...even enjoy driving. Like that trip to northern ME last summer was fun!

I think most of the trip should be pretty decent traffic. I get nervous about trucks which is why I dislike driving after dark. Other than a couple congested areas near cities, my trip out was pretty uneventful.

Here's an $8 item we'll be including with our Camillus BK2 and BK3 knives. It's called a "modular knife loop", and it adopts traditional knife sheaths, with belt loop, to work with MOLLE vests and armor. A velcro loop goes through the sheath loop, and an elastic cord ties down the lower part of the sheath.

This allows the knive to be attached anywhere there are MOLLE loops.

Otherwise I'll just call a Hobbit Holer or two to update the rest of the gang!Oh yeah!! You have a cell phone now, so that will work out great!

I will NOT be driving late at night, but if I have my way, we'll start out at four or so each morning.
Margaret begs to differ, but I said she can just sleep until eight or nine if she wants, and then we'll stop for breakfast!

It always just seems like after dark the trucks multiply. I don't really drive after 10 often, so I'll have to take your word for it!
Rosie, have you got tickets yet? I'm wondering about flight times and such - I'm the sort of person who likes to have these things planned out way in advance.

Cool.
Mmm, I'm having leftover ham for lunch. It should last me quite a while. And it's good. Mmm...

I'm printing out our itinerary for each day. I'm thinking I may stretch things a bit - try to make for nine hours a day or travel instead of eight. And...the other thing is, if we did a twelve hour day (not counting stops) the third day, we MIGHT get into Fort Collins in the evening of the 6th. It'd be pushing it a little, so we'll see. I'm not planning to be totally rigid, but if I have some guidelines for where I'm going to stop, I'll feel better.

Hmmm... keep me posted. Plans make everything better, don't they!
You'll have a better clue by next Tuesday, I suppose, so we can always just plan things on the fly.

I just bid on this:
Manuals
We really really need them. The faded one under the Haynes is like $35 brand new, (give or take, depending). I don't care if the cover is faded! It's just gonna get covered with grease like my Idiot's Guide!
Wish me luck...

That's good stuff. I won't do much more than an oil change without a Haynes manual on the ground next to me.
And yes, it is covered with all manner of grease and oil: a badge of honor.

I got a nice note, addressed to the Hobbit Hole, from TexKat's son, over in Iraq.
I would like to thank you for the knife and the shears. The knife often comes into play for various tasks. Thanks for the gifts.
It helps to know Americans back home like yourselves are supporting our military here in Iraq.
I will be more than grateful to visit your web site. I'm sure I will find some useful tools I could use on the battlefield as well as at home.
Thanks again for the support.
