The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

As a kid, the only way my mom could get me to eat cauliflower or broccoli, or any vegetable for that mater was to smother it is cheese.

my dad always said we kids would eat dog turds if'n he put cheese on 'em...

I like beets...especially pickled ones. I'm aware that they almost DO taste earthy...but I like 'em anyway.

Speakin' of kimchee, this new air purifier is supposed to take smells out of the air. Reckon it means Nana might be able to have cooked cabbage again...

I got to the point that when I wanted to make something for SSQ and myself that I knew the kids wouldn't like, I'd just make something different for them. I wasn't going to keep us from eating what we wanted, and I always encouraged the kids to try what we were eating. Turns out, sometimes they liked it!

Clare had always been a finicky eater, but she's gotten more daring in her choices. Now she'll eat different meats, even super spicy Double Cooked Pork from our favorite Chinese restaurant, she just won't eat the veggies that come along with it.

Hah, I don't blame her. I always try to eat identifiable food and some of the stuff in Chinese dishes isn't quite...

heh reminds me of the time me and mrsnad were in Kowloon... we were walkin' thru the market, takin' in the sights sounds and smells... we happened upon this kewl pet shop with all sorts of amphibians, reptiles, small mammals and weird fish... at least, we thought it wuzza pet shop... turned out it wuzza restaurant where you picked out yer dinner live... then they cleaned it and cooked it (or not) to your specs... we didn't eat there...
