I'm at a loss as to what to tell you except that you must talk to her parents ASAP.

So far I have not encountered such a problem, but of course, I live in a very red county. My daughter's 1st grade class voted 17-2 for Bush for President.

State of Maine Forcing All Grade School Kids to Answer Horrific Survey

that identifies Grades 7 and 8 individuals by requiring their Zip Code
A Survey that they are Hiding from the Parents and the Public under a Copyright Law.
Smoking aside, which is categorized in with alcohol, marijuana, heroin, crack, LSD, sex, guns, knives, violence, and crime, this Survey will mentally and emotionally Traumatize regular kids in to Psychiatric 'Care'.

And the Partners For a Tobacco Free Maine is using the surveys for God knows what all...........Invasion of Privacy!

Maine Representatives emails

Grade School Substance Abuse Survey 2002 Final/Maine

It has come to my attention that the schools in Maine are giving surveys to their 7th and 8th graders.

After looking over this survey, I became quite irate! This survey is verging on Invasion of Privacy! And Mental Home Invasion! How did this ever get approved, and who approved this? I’d really like to know who came up with this.

My family and I are shocked beyond belief! I am going to make sure I pass this on to everyone we know, especially those with children in school.

We also understand that Partners for a Tobacco Free Maine uses these survey’s! It great for them to educate, but they have over stepped their bounds when it comes to personal privacy. What are they using these survey’s FOR???!!!

What kinds of questions are these:

"Has anyone in your family ever had a severe alcohol or drug problem?"

"People in my family often insult or yell at each other."

"Have you [a 7th or 8th grader!!] used HEROIN IN THE LAST TEN DAYS?"

“What is the highest level of schooling did your mother and father complete?”

“”Do you feel very close to your mother?”

“How often do you attend religious services?”

You can find this survey at:

Grade School Substance Abuse Survey 2002 Final/Maine

I really suggest they put an end to this. I’m going to make aware everyone I know about this horrible invading survey. We do have the Right to Privacy Act.

We have been working all week-end to get this survey on the net. One school official ask my friend where she got this, and that she can't USE it, because it is "copy righted."

I see nothing on this survey that states "copy righted."

I also found out that this survey started with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which is in another state. So all of you with children in school, check out if your school is doing this too. It might be all across the United States!

The schools have NO right to intimidate our children with questions like this. And if a child is mad at his parents, think of the damage he can do!

There is not one question about sex. I thought the schools were so concerned about teen age pregnancy????

I have emailed over 60 Maine Representatives, and several newspapers. This survey has GOT to stop!

One child who saw that his mom had a copy of the survey said that with the zip code and how many family members are in the house, there is no way this can be anonymous!

You gave a good answer, Mears and didn't overload her with too much information to absorb.

So now, this is the second experience she's had with teachers being in conflict with her Grammy.

The indoctrination attempt could very well have unintended consequences; your granddaughter may be more wary in the future about teachers' credibility.

This would be an advantage when political issues are being discussed, but could cause havoc when long division is the subject.

This teacher should be ordered to cease politicizing the classroom.
