How do you respond to a third grader who is being brainwashed by a very liberal teacher?
self

Posted on 03/01/2005 8:09:14 AM PST by Mears

My grandaughter, out of the blue last week, said she wished that Kerry was president.

When I asked her why,she really had no response, she's in third grade after all. She then said everyone in her class wished Kerry was president(no surprise there in a very liberal schools system).

She then said that her teacher had told them we were at war in Iraq because Bush wanted the oil. I was stunned.

I then told her that I had voted for Bush and that more people in the USA had wanted Bush for president than had wanted Kerry and that her teacher's view on the war was an opinion, not a fact.

Why on earth would a teacher say things like this to a child who thinks if the teacher said it then it must be true.

I received the following in email awhile back about the Dumbing Down of America.  Maine and New England are the worst culprits when it comes to our school system and the teachers trying to frame the young minds sitting before them in a class room.

I had watched Kelley Taylor Ryan's(public access show in southern Maine I

referred to previously) interview with the author of "The Deliberate Dumbing

Down of America". This author has in her book all the documentation to

support the following: Maine is leading the US in instituting a communist

curriculum in it's school systems to dumb-down the people so the power

seekers will have more malleable subjects. She has worked in the Maine school

systems since the 70's and as I said, has retained the documentation and

plans for how our government will accomplish this. The book is $50 and can

only be ordered from a private publisher so I do not have it as yet myself.

I do have "Cloning of The American Mind" and started reading it yesterday.

In it, Eakman explains how surveys mixed in with school achievement tests

are used to see how the dumbing-down is working and provide the means to see

where the curriculum needs to be changed.

Already, advertisers and politicians are using databases loaded with personal information on each one of us to target us for various sales ploys. As I read about this, the light bulb went off: Now picture one of these huge databases collecting

student's answers to surveys on their own personal laptop and using the

computer to gear curriculum for each individual student to influence their

morals, political views, and dumbing-down. Each student will have their own

curriculum programmed to manipulate their minds, their own personal

brainwasher, if you will. And guess which state is leading in attempting to

instill this program? – MAINE!

What else could I have said to one so young?

You should tell her the noble history of the Republican Party, that it was founded as a bulwark against slavery, and has been doing so ever since.

Obviously, you inform her that the teacher is a liar.

The husband of one of the teachers in the school is a good buddy of my husband's..........and makes me look left of center, if that gives you any idea of the kind of area I live in.

I then told her that I had voted for Bush

That's good. Give her some idea why you voted for Bush.

and that more people in the USA had wanted Bush for president than had wanted Kerry

That's fine but, I hope she doesn't take that to mean the majority is always (or even usually) right.

Maine,of all places.

Maine was alwsy considered,by us in Massachusetts,as a place where independence, stubborness, and self reliance was the big thing.

"As Maine goes,so goes the nation." Sad to see these changes. It was probably all the Mass libs moving to Maine that started the state on the road to socialism.

After long battles with myself, I've about come to the conclusion that it's impossible for a child to get an unbiased education in our public school system.
It used to be that the young were not subjected to political opinions of the teachers until they reached later high school or college level, but now liberal teachers attempt to start the brainwashing in the first year.

Since this is the case, however, I would search through FR for all those pictures of the little kids with shining eyes in Iraq swarming around our military people, and I'd find those pictures of the laughing people with blue on their fingers, and I'd ask, "Is this about oil?"

Go to the teacher and tell that you will sue him If he won't tell the kids that Bush is cool.

I can't really get into much discussion because of her age.I think just telling her that Grammy voted for Bush will giver her something to think about.

Two of my sons(her uncles) are also Bush supporters so I will mention that to her.Out of my five kids we have 2 libs,2 conservatives, and one who keeps his political leanings to himself(though I think he's a lib).

Aren't families interesting?

Back then if the teacher said something I would be more inckined to disagree with it! That stayed with me my whole life! They say I have a problem with authority, but the damn truth is I am doing great! Hahaha! (Chomping cigar!)

When she was in kindergarten, yes,KINDERGARTEN,a teacher told them that if you smoke you will die.

Well, my mother told me about the same thing at about the same age. Mind you, while I've never smoked, the anti-smoking crusade is so obnoxious these days that I'm tempted to buy cigarettes.... I might not smoke them, but....

That provides a good example of how my wife and I teach our son. He picked up some of the anti-smoking rhetoric. When he got obnoxious about it, we told him that we don't think smoking is safe. However, adults are and should be free to make their own decisions.

We also pointed out that some people make similar claims about chicken nuggets -- he loves chicken nuggets -- and asked him how he would like it, if chicken nuggets were banned because some people thought they were bad for you or immoral.

that is why they want Bush out, to kill her, and keep their jobs.

You tell your daughter that her teachers want to kill her? You are one sick puppy.

3rd grade -- Age nine or so? You don't need to go into detail, but I don't think it's too early to start explaining the basics of politics to her. Heck, I've talked politics with my nine-year-old since he was 4 or 5, but when I have a tendency to watch the news with him in the room....

Good for you,a very sensible approach.

I would never have a problem with the parents discussing the smoking issue, but a KINDERGARTEN teacher? No way!

Mom saying it is one thing - a teacher is entirely different.

I like the way you handled it.

Good point on it being a teacher vs. parent.

This is how I handled this situation -- a direct threat to the teacher in no uncertain terms

Bravo, the teachers political opinion has no business being part of the classroom, in any grade save maybe discussions in Government and History in High School. But open discussion and fairness must be part of the program.

In my day our parents had an unrepentant communist teacher fired for letting her personal feelings and emotions about how the government was being run enter the class discussion, (and this was High School, but in English). The moral is to monitor your kids classroom experiences carefully and undo any damage quickly. Or even better leave the public school system entirely.

State of Maine Forcing All Grade School Kids to Answer Horrific Survey

that identifies Grades 7 and 8 individuals by requiring their Zip Code
A Survey that they are Hiding from the Parents and the Public under a Copyright Law.
Smoking aside, which is categorized in with alcohol, marijuana, heroin, crack, LSD, sex, guns, knives, violence, and crime, this Survey will mentally and emotionally Traumatize regular kids in to Psychiatric 'Care'.

And the Partners For a Tobacco Free Maine is using the surveys for God knows what all...........Invasion of Privacy!

Maine Representatives emails

Grade School Substance Abuse Survey 2002 Final/Maine

It has come to my attention that the schools in Maine are giving surveys to their 7th and 8th graders.

After looking over this survey, I became quite irate! This survey is verging on Invasion of Privacy! And Mental Home Invasion! How did this ever get approved, and who approved this? I’d really like to know who came up with this.

My family and I are shocked beyond belief! I am going to make sure I pass this on to everyone we know, especially those with children in school.

We also understand that Partners for a Tobacco Free Maine uses these survey’s! It great for them to educate, but they have over stepped their bounds when it comes to personal privacy. What are they using these survey’s FOR???!!!

What kinds of questions are these:

"Has anyone in your family ever had a severe alcohol or drug problem?"

"People in my family often insult or yell at each other."

"Have you [a 7th or 8th grader!!] used HEROIN IN THE LAST TEN DAYS?"

“What is the highest level of schooling did your mother and father complete?”

“”Do you feel very close to your mother?”

“How often do you attend religious services?”

You can find this survey at:

Grade School Substance Abuse Survey 2002 Final/Maine

I really suggest they put an end to this. I’m going to make aware everyone I know about this horrible invading survey. We do have the Right to Privacy Act.

We have been working all week-end to get this survey on the net. One school official ask my friend where she got this, and that she can't USE it, because it is "copy righted."

I see nothing on this survey that states "copy righted."

I also found out that this survey started with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which is in another state. So all of you with children in school, check out if your school is doing this too. It might be all across the United States!

The schools have NO right to intimidate our children with questions like this. And if a child is mad at his parents, think of the damage he can do!

There is not one question about sex. I thought the schools were so concerned about teen age pregnancy????

I have emailed over 60 Maine Representatives, and several newspapers. This survey has GOT to stop!

One child who saw that his mom had a copy of the survey said that with the zip code and how many family members are in the house, there is no way this can be anonymous!

Sounds about right as far as what you could tell your grand-daughter. The teacher on the other hand would get a major piece of my mind, as well as the administrator of the school. I'm sure they're all fellow travellers, but I would put them on notice that I didn't approve of politics being discussed with a third grader in the manner that they had been conducted. assuming, of course, that the parents are on the same page as you are on this matter.
