Begins March 1 on CBS, 9 p.m. Eastern/Pacific
Here we go again, race fans, for the Seventh Season of The Amazing Race (TAR7). We'll vicariously travel with eleven teams as they fly, drive, climb, crawl, leap, slide, and boogie around the world to compete for one million dollars. They'll never know where they're going next or what they'll have to do once there. The last team to arrive at the "designated pit stop" at the end of each week's episode will be eliminated from the race -- unless it is not. So pull up your favorite armchair and travel along with the Freeper Amazing Race contingent every Tuesday night for the next few months as we root for favorites, throw tomatoes at the others, and wish we were the ones living dangerously. BON VOYAGE!
A Thumbnail Photo Guide To This Season's Possibly Amazing Racers
Brian, 27 & Greg, 24 are brothers from Santa Monica, California. Brian is an actor/bartender and Greg is a bouncer. Their primary motivation for participating in the Race is to travel the world with each other and meet new people. Veto!s opinion: Team Bro wants face time on tv. They are big, strong, in shape, and they think they're action stars. But are they wily? Could be they'll be eating other teams' dust.
Debbie & Bianca are best friends from Los Angeles, California and Woodbridge, Virginia, respectively. Bianca is a high school teacher and Debbie works as a photographer. Both are highly educated, experienced travelers, and have lived abroad. Veto!s opinion: Keep an eye on these two. Unless they scratch each others eyes out, theyll probably do just fine.
Lynn & Alex are (would you believe?) a gay couple from West Hollywood, California. They both work as executive assistants. With their four-year anniversary on the horizon, they possibly hope to get married in Amsterdamif indeed they race through Amsterdam. Veto!s opinion: Need I say?
Megan & Heidi, a make-up artist and fashion designer, are roommates from Oak Park, California. Both are allegedly extremely competitive and not afraid to take risks. They decided to sign up for the Race just for the challenge and competition. Veto!s opinion:. Can the Hair Queens keep up the pace when their tresses get tangled? I see hissy fits on the horizon.
Meredith, 69, & Gretchen, 66, are a husband/wife team from Easton, Maryland. Meredith is a retired executive and Gretchen is a retired nurse/flight attendant. He holds seven National Masters Swimming Championship titles, she admits to being quite loud, particularly when upset. . Veto!s opinion: If Gretch doesnt turn into Nurse Ratched, they may go far and win Freeper kudos for their efforts.
Ray, 44, & Deana, 27, are a dating-on-and-off team from Canfield, Ohio and Youngstown, Ohio respectively. Ray, a former semi-pro football player, is a stockbroker and Deana is a marketing and promotions executive. Both enjoy weight lifting and karate. Veto!s opinion:This seasons will their relationship last? team. Ray will overdo it trying to beat younger guys. Ho-hum.
Rob, 29, & Amber, 26, AKA Boston Rob and Ambuh, are an engaged couple from Canton, Massachusetts and Beaver, Pennsylvania, respectively. They formed an alliance and fell in love when they competed with each other on Survivor: All Stars. Amber won the one million dollar prize. Rob finished as the $100k runner-up, but proposed to Amber before they knew which had won the big bucks. Veto!s opinion: Two Thumbs Up! Highly athletic and competitive, these two know how to work together. But will their take-over-the-hood skills that won them Survivor translate to racings Hall of Fame? Why, indeed, not?
Ron, 28, & Kelly, 26, are a dating Team from Villa Rica, Georgia and Greenville, South Carolina, respectively. Ron is a former Iraq War POW who is currently a student at the University of Georgia and works as a motivational speaker. Kelly was crowned Miss South Carolina in 2002 and works as a Legislative Correspondent
(for whom?) Ron was an Apache helicopter pilot in Iraq. When shot down, he was captured, interrogated, held captive and later rescued by the United States Marines. Following his rescue, Ron returned home and was introduced to the reigning Miss South Carolina. The two have been an item ever since. Ron is very competitive and admits hes a thrill seeker. . Veto!s opinion: Two more thumbs 'way up. Theyll be Freepers favorites, and they have what it takes to win.
Ryan, 31, & Chuck, 32, are lifelong friends from Landrum, South Carolina and Inman, South Carolina, respectively. Ryan is a general contractor, and Chuck works in boiler tube replacement sales. Both are motorcycle nuts and very religious. . Veto!s opinion: Definitely wily Southern boys. Up against tough competition, but I hope they make a good showing.
Uchenna, 40, & Joyce, 44, a childless married couple from Houston. Uchenna worked for Enron as an energy trader and Joyce worked in sales for WorldCom, have different jobs since their companies went bankrupt. If they win, they say theyll use the money for in-vitro fertilization. Veto!s opinion:A tough, scrappy pair, but too much tension here, methinks, for them to get much traction. Theyre hardly Kim and Chip, the wonderful black couple who won Amazing Race two seasons back.
Susan, 54, & Patrick, 26, are mother and gay son. She is the Director for Judicial Affairs for Miami University in Ohio and Patrick is a writer now living in Hollywood. Susan, married to Patricks father for 34 years, earned her college degree as a non-traditional student. Patrick says his family has always been very supportive of him, even surprise, surprise-- when he told them he was gay. Veto!s opinion: Theyre looking for love in all the wrong places; hopefully, their elimination from the show will be swift and merciful.
Thats it for the Preview.
Oh and against Rob and Amber.
According to Dish Network TV Guide
Tonight: "Houston, we have an elephant" - The teams drive miles through the African bush. (new)
Wednesday: "They saved the eyeball" - No description (new)
I have been cheering for Ron and Kelly (I guess for the obvious reasons), even though they are obviously just not a good couple. I had liked them individually, but not together. But Kelly seems to be getting to be a bit high maintenance. Unless there was a lot of screaming and yelling they didn't show, she really overreacted to Ron. I guess it is possible, since I do believe they do some creative editing, but I seriously doubt he said "shut the f- up" to her. It is a shame, because I think they were just starting to get really good at this, but I think they will be out soon, if they can't work together.
I am guessing R/A, U/J and L/A in the last 3. I don't really like how R/A keep getting help from people who know them from Survivor. I might not mind them so much as a team otherwise, but that bothers me for some reason.
Tonights episode had some very funny/interesting moments, though. The best was the look on L/A face when they found out they were 4th, and they were wearing extra clothes. They are wearing thin on me though. And they say the most un-tolerant things about others, especially if you ever watch the extra footage at www.cbs.com
She did overreact...and he didn't say the f-bomb. Or they edited out one. They completely do not match. He needs an athletic type I think and she needs a banker or doctor. Rob and Amber are at least compatible and supportive. They will go far. Meredith finally showed his backbone when he told Gretchen to give it a rest or something similar. To give her credit she said ok and stopped talking. :) They're sorta funny to me. Team exlax is so typically comical as a gay couple. They act as if they are coming out of a Hollywood screen. To watch them run makes me laugh until tears come out of my eyes.
If your theory continues to hold, the mountain group is being whittled away now.
As the ad showed tonight, tomorrows episode is the recap episode with behind the scenes/never before seen footage.
Relly is falling apart. Romber is having fun. Metch is losing focus. Juchenna is hanging in there. Exlax has some really crappy vehicle mojo.
Unless they editted it out, you're right. I was wondering if maybe he said it under his breath and she heard him. If it's without edit, Kelly made it up on the fly. I think they will be the next to go.
This was a good episode. To bad the brothers were last. I'm amazed Meredith and Gretchen finished where they did...in spite of the mistakes..most from not paying attention.
I like the couples that continue to be pleasant with each other, through tough times..that includes Rob and Amber. They are hustlers.
If I'm nor mistaken, the show Wednesday night is a repeat of the first show with extra footage.
Whew....becoz of this thread I was searchin and searchin my Wed. tv guide......it's not even listed! But I saw the commercial..ha! apparently the 'retread' will take the place of 60 Minutes. lol.
This race is wonderful.....thanx for everyone rootin against Romber....hehe makes em win. Was this not the THIRD first place for them? teehee. I'm not gloatin....really. lol
Now if youll permit me, here are a few disjointed thoughts about last nights show.
Romber: Lack of sleep must have done them some good. They had no problem with the tasks last night. (Once they realized they didnt have the African MoJo working for them in the balancing act.)
Relly: He needs to lighten up and she needs to chill out. If memory serves, she was a beauty queen, not a ballerina. And he himself had problems balancing the water jug on his head. Remember, when the instructions say no hands, it means NO HANDS.
Juchenna: I cant believe Phil made them go back and get that stake. They got the marker off the stake, which in my book is the same thing. Not only that but in past seasons and past episodes of this season, Phil and the producers have overlook many other goofs and some of them (again in my humble opinion) were a heck of a lot more serious than this little oversight. Oh well, at least the other teams were far enough behind that they still able to go back, get the stake and still place third.
ExLax: These two poofters are really starting to grate on my nerves. And it seems as if the producers are going out of their way to get replacement vehicles to these two as soon as possible. Whereas in other seasons, if a teams vehicle broke down, they had to wait hours before a replacement arrived. I can only hope they are eliminated very soon.
Metch: These two old birds remind me of the energizer bunny, they just keep going and going and going, etc. etc. etc. Im starting to like them more and more.
Bregg: Im going to miss these two and their seemingly throw away lines. Like the Big Bucks, Big Bucks, No Whammy! crack as they rip open the clue envelope at the start of last nights show. I also think that Phil is going to miss their antics.
Oh well, back to the grind and Survivor! Go Koror!
Yeah, even the gay couple are more supportive of each other than Ron and Kelly. Of course they're nasty to everyone else.
I think the producers had a hand in that - telling them to "amp up" the support for last night's episode. How many times did they call each other "honey", "baby", and "sweetie" - more than any other episode. Probably to play up how "normal" they are in contrast to the heterosexual Ron & Kelly who just can't seem to stop bickering.
Agenda-driven TV - how awesome!
Did anyone catch when Lynn said (in reference to Uchenna & Joyce's balancing acts) "They were born to do something like that".
If any other contestant had said something so racist and ignorant, the producers would have carded them out as such for the rest of the season. But, nope - the two poofters get a pass.
Ron and Kelly must have been put together on a blind date by publicity agents or something...they seem so different!
I was disappointed to see that when Relly came in first to the Pit Stop that they didn't win a trip, like Romber always does when they are first to the Pit.
Exlax didn't get anything for their first place, either.
I will be glad when the teams leave, "Mother Africa". I don't believe I can take much more of team Africa's misty eyed trip through the homeland.
Yup, you can almost hear one saying to the other, "I'm coming honey".
Why haven't they merged the teams by now? If Ulong goes to tribal council again, what will they do? I predict a tie vote.
While I do predict a Romber big win and even bigger wedding production, I just find Rob's arrogance unappealing. A confident man is appealing while arrogance is not, IMHO.
It's only arrogance if Rob can't back up the boast. Team Romber is doing pretty darn well and seem to be playing the game according to their plan.
Something that came out last night will help me cut Uchenna a little slack.
He was born in Nigeria and his dad is Nigerian.
Maybe their next leg will take them to Nigeria!
