"I like the tone you take, and you ask questions that I asked myself, for that - thank you."

Thanks, I appreciate that.

But, what got me upset is: I am PROUD to be a FReeper. I think we FReepers make a difference, and I have learned so very much here from a lot of people, and in many different ways. It was lonely out there before I found this place.

I agree with you that FR has made a huge difference, but so has Sean, in the exact same things that matter to both of us! It has bothered me for a long time to read the petty criticisms of Sean on this site, things that don't matter one iota: that he promotes his book (so what? when you write a book you have to promote it), that his IQ is below par (really? how then is he #2 only to Rush?), etc. I've even read criticisms about him because he has such a picture-perfect home life. To me that smacks of jealousy, and nothing more.

So when Sean flicked us off the table, with a non-chalant brush of his hand I was hurt. The anger came later, but the first things I felt were hurt and diappointment.

I was disappointed to hear him say what he did also, because I knew it would simply egg on those here who have made such a game of making fun of him. It reminds me of the bullies in elementary school who make fun of the straight A guy in order to make themselves look better. It doesn't. It shows their true colors.

This is a great place to call home, and he sold us out selfishly.

I'm not sure that he did sell us out selfishly. I think he's been disappointed that a place that should be home to him also, isn't. Would you feel at home in a place that made fun of your IQ, of your home life, of your career, of your books, and so on? I sure wouldn't.

Yeah, but he got a lot of good support here too as evidenced by the sheer number of people he negatively affected yesterday.

Ooops, forgot to add: He's a public figure, his skin is supposed to be a little thicker than that.

I agree with you. I don't blame Sean for not liking FR. We are all human, and even if information is really good here, if every time I logged on I came across people insulting me, I'd give up FR pretty quick.

I wish kindness to others, the Golden Rule, was more in effect over here. It seems that the Don Rickles Rule is higher and we can all get sucked in by it: Who can slam someone in the public eye the funniest? Even people who are working for what we are working for.

That is hogwash.

FR can have uncomfortable moments, but there are hundreds of different facets to it.

Just like life,it is not all roses.

You are transposing touchy feely validations to what is a insult to our forum family. We can never control the members personality or rational. We have rules of conduct, and those are generally enforced across the board, but opinion are not and cannot/should not be regulated.

if Shaun told the truth, the time he was here was in the middle of a family squabble of major proportions. I remember it well, and it has long passed.

Those members who left during that time are now trashing FR from outside the forum and Shaun has joined that group with his comments.

That is that. Nothing else to attribute to it.

I liked Sean. I listened to him every day. I saw more support and defense of him here than criticism. Of course he got flack! We ALL get flack! Such is the nature of the beast.

Eat our own? I have been BBQ'ed, fricasse'd, saute'd, flambe'ed, stewed, brewed, toasted, roasted, battered, fried and hung out to dry--- before coming here. You can't have a thin skin here or anywhere on the net.

Is he stupid? No, but he does stupid things, and since he makes his living in the public eye representing 'us' and our beliefs, we have a right to comment.

Anyhow, it wasn't that he made an off the cuff, one liner like "I don't go there anymore" and let it go. He kept talking, and kept talking and kept talking. Making it pretty clear that while he hasn't been here in a while, he is happy to parrot someone else's bitterness.

I really hope that 'one' individual was worth losing the respect of many of us here, myself included. Even worse to me (and the most disgusting) was that he slammed us to promote his site!

Geez louise, tacky, tacky, tacky!

I would have defended him two days ago. I have felt lucky to listen to Sean Hannity in NY before he was syndicated. His success has grown very quickly. He made the wrong comments. He's not doing a good job now presenting his reasoning for those comments yesterday. He's talking about getting attacked. What about the people that said good things and support him on FreeRepublic? A lot of nice things have been said about him.

It's wrong Hannity used his radio chair to settle some kind of score because his feelings were hurt. It shows no class. It hurts the site in the eyes of people who listen to him and have not really been to Free Republic. It's an attempt to give FreeRepublic a bad reputation. I'm done with those three hours of radio.
