The Salma Hayek versus Friedrich Hayek Scorecard
So, you're an intellectual who appreciates the subjectivist economic theory and classical liberal political theory of Friedrich Hayek. And you're also a moviegoer who appreciates the exotic allure of Mexican screen goddess Salma Hayek. But who would win, if they went head to head? Lucky for you, I'm keeping score. -- Glen Whitman
|
|
Salma Hayek |
Friedrich Hayek
|
Age
|
...and the edge goes to... |
34 years old, alive for all of them |
101 years old, dead for the last eight |
Salma |
Awards & Honors
|
|
Nominee, Best Kiss (for "Desperado"), MTV Movie Awards, 1996 |
Nobel laureate in economic science, 1974 |
Friedrich |
Distance Traveled
|
|
From Veracruz, Mexico to the U.S. |
From Vienna, Austria to the U.S. by way of Great Britain |
Friedrich |
Entertainment Value
|
|
"Desperado"; "From Dusk til Dawn" |
Monetary Theory and the Trade Cycle; Prices and Production |
Salma |
Number of Works
|
|
23 movies and a Mexican soap opera |
25 books and 130 articles |
Friedrich |
Appearance
|
|
Named by People Magazine as one of world's 50 most beautiful people, 1996 |
Large nose and funny mustache |
Salma |

"The mind cannot foresee its own advance." |
Friedrich |
And the final score is: Salma 3, Friedrich 4. (Sorry, Salma, better luck next time!)

If you don't hate America, you'll do just fine. Unfortunately, too many people labelling themselves democrates don't share the same values.

Here is the problem, Justin. The traditional middle American values we have held our entire lives have been under an unprecedented attack.
For thousands of years, a married mother and father raising children was the best thing for children and for the continuation of our culture and society. That has always been a no-brainer. It is your side that wants to change that. Sorry, most people accept that what gays do is their business as long as are not public spectacles. But they should not be given the same status as a man and woman being married.
Your side attacked Ronald Reagan and wanted to acquiesce to the communist menace instead of defeating it. Your side was wrong.
Your side wants to completely eliminate the mention of God. Michael Newdow is on your side. The separation of church and state is a liberal creation. What the framers fought against was one state-sponsored religion. They would not believe what your side has been doing.
If you believe in liberty, the owner of a business should be able to determine whether smoking is allowed in his business. No one is forced to go there. I hate smoke, so I won't go there. But he has that right.
The people on your side believe guns are the problem. We believe people are the problem. Did you know that guns are used perhaps a million and a half times a year to stop a crime?
Your side has pushed the envelope everywhere, and we resent it and will fight it. John Kennedy believed in a very strong national defense and he pushed an unprecedented tax cut. He would not recognize the DemocRATic party today. That is the problem. We are not far right wingers. What has really happened is that your side has gone so far to the left that they are barely visible.
Your side supported Clinton's war in the Balkans where we didn't have a national interest. The mass murder claims against Milosevik were not even close to what was being alleged. Hussein, on the other hand, is responsible for probably 1.3 million deaths. But your side doesn't support the removal of the worst mass murderer since Hitler who did pose a threat to us.
Your side allowed a rapist to stay in the White House. We weren't trying to pull a coup. Gore would have been president.
The most disgusting politicians are on your side --- Mel Reynolds and Marion Barry are examples. If someone goes bad on our side, he loses our support.
There's a start. Your side has attacked our culture and has been tearing down the institutions that made our country great. How is there room to get along?

That is one of the funniest FR posts I have ever seen! And a heck of a great analysis, too!
KP, Sionnsar -- I think we need to evaluate this comparison!
Of course we will need to have everyone declare their gender bias up front.
And please let me say to you FreeKeys, before the potential unpleasantessness, that your upfront work here is appreciatd and bookmarked!

I'm glad you enjoyed it too. Let me just say that I did NOT write the brilliant analysis, I just copied it from one of the numerous web pages of Economics Professor Glen Whitman, whose link I provided at the bottom.
