I need some help with CD drives (Vanity)
February 12, 2005
Posted on 02/12/2005 1:50:43 PM PST by Howlin
I put a music CD that came with a book into my computer last night, played, and now my computer won't recognize either my CD or my CD writer.
I've tried everything; Norton, Restore, rebooting.
Does anybody have any suggestions about what I might try now?

Why do I need a small supercomputer?
And why do I think you all are having a party in here while I'm fumbling along.....LOL.

"SP-2 will not boot and it crashes as soon as the load begins."
Yep, that will happen most often when the filesystem on the hd is corrupt in someway, especially if it is ntfs. Ntfs can be a real pain because of security descriptors being fubared or partition table problems.

OH that is NEAT!!!! Shouldn't I be ashamed? LOL
Not even five years old and he's got me pegged.
My second oldest was up here one night, using a golf putter thing; he told me it was my turn, so I shot; then, when it was his turn, he said, "Stay right there; don't go sit back down at your computer."

The suggestion from elsewhere to reload the chipset drivers is a sound one, seperating it from the CD drive and going to the interface as the source of the problem instead.
Should be in the same location where you found the Samsung CD drivers.
I'll see if I can find anything about that CD out in the ether.
Hopefully it's these drivers and not a physical problem.

Post #86 has the cables... top one is the one you will likely find, unless they use rounded cables..... just see what connects to the NON POWER connecter in the back of the CD drive......

That's exactly what mine look like; so I'm going to do it at both ends.
BTW, should I "clean" it out while I'm in there, dust bunnies?

Why do you keep saying "rebuild XP?" Do you think that's where I'm heading?
And how would I transfer my files (don't even ASK me, the answer is no)???

No. The rest of my computer works like a dread. As I said, my house should be as organized/clean as my hard drive is.
