America has undergone a continuing "bastard boom" that has had devastating effects on our society.
This guy deserves a medal -- not complaints.
TRUTH: "Even as things stand, we are bribing the unmotivated, the confused, the backward, the lazy into making the worst career decision of their young lives, and becoming professional unmarried mothers, living off the State until the grave takes over. Our welfare system is creating benefits-addicted, fatherless families who will be raised in a culture of personal and economic apathy - and from such warped timber, true masts are seldom hewn."

The strongest indicator, statistically, for failure in life is being borne a bastard. This one fact correlates more to all of life's failures, than any of the other presumed dominant factors such as race, religion, poverty, or lack of education of parents.
All of these factors incline the child to grow up as a high school drop out (very likely), or get into drugs (likely), or into crime (less likely but common). Yet being borne illegitimate creates a greater likelihood of all these factors than any other.
Sometimes the truth is very harsh. But it is precisely in those instances that it's most important that the truth be told.

"Kevin's outraged the liberals of Ireland by referring to these women as 'MOB's' - an acronym for Mothers Of Bastards." Kinda harsh, but a child is best served growing up with a mother AND father...MUD

I quite like Kevin Myers. Haven't read him since the Irish Times became a subscription site but as I recall he made a lot of sense. He is simply stating the obvious here and the outrage is that he would be attacked and vilified for it.

Your thoughts?Thanks for posting.
He should have used another term since the kids shouldn't be called names. Reagan called similar women here "welfare queens", some of whom had several children by different fathers. That term was aimed at the real wrongdoers, the adults. Which, I guess, is one of the reasons Reagan was so liked by so many.
I hope he survives but the Times really is a leftwing rag.

My thoughts? Political Correctness, the world over, simply prevents the uttering of the simple truth. About most anything.

I might not have used the same wording, but I applaud the idea. :^)

Lads and Lady, the Language isn't half strong enough - you should hear me arguing politics in the pub!
I know a MOB, she raised a SOB, she was one time whingeing to an 'old school' country woman;
MOB: I don't know what to do with him. He climbs out of his bedroom window [upstairs], and threatens to jump if I don't leave him alone.
Old Schooler: Well I'd push the fer!
Needless to say, the SOB is now a drug dealer - and he got cut up recently by 'hoods', whom he owed money to!

Myers wrote an apology in the Irish Times that, upon looking at it, suggests he's preparing to defend legally against charges of..."Incitement to Hatred."
Myers to be prosecuted?

"...the current number of young women in Ireland, who are becoming pregnant to receive welfare cheques." Looks like someone needs to implement a little Welfare Reform...or is this the Irish Guv'ment's way to combat the low fertility rate that plagues Old Europe?!

Kevin's outraged the liberals of Ireland by referring to these women as 'MOB's' - an acronym for Mothers Of Bastards. (Eyes bug out) Damn. You'd never hear that term used here, at least in the papers.
Our welfare system is creating benefits-addicted, fatherless families who will be raised in a culture of personal and economic apathy - and from such warped timber, true masts are seldom hewn
On a serious note, he's right. We have that same problem here in the US, and IMO, most of the major crime problems in our cities is from this. I'm curious what the number of fatherless families are in Glasgow, Scotland. The murder rate there is higher than most American cities.
Well she usually doesn't - a study of the parental backgrounds of gang members in London and New York - where they are ahead of us on these matters - will tell you. Mob members usually stressed out Mobs for mothers and absent FoBs for dads
This is nothing new unfortunatly. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, a old-style dem senator from New York, wrote about this 30 years ago. He was right on the mark. Kids need their dads.

If the truth be known, I reserve the bitterest of contempt for the sperm donors (I refuse to grace them with the title of "fathers") who sow their seed and then shirk any and all responsibility for the upbringing of the child they so cavalierly created.
As for the liberal hue and cry attacking the messenger for delivering the message, well, nothing new here . . .
