PETA's Lobster Problem: No Pain, No Gain

PETA's Lobster Problem: No Pain, No Gain Somebody pass the butter. A recent Norwegian study reports that lobsters and crabs don't have the capacity to feel pain. And the animal rights nuts at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) -- who run a "lobster liberation" website -- must be steaming.

Animal rights wackos have a long history of pursuing "lobster liberation." PETA's own website offers helpful "tips" on liberating lobsters from restaurants and supermarkets. It appears their pleas were taken to heart last year when PETA disciple and child actor Edward Furlong attempted to "liberate" a couple of lobsters from a Kentucky grocery store while in a drunken stupor. And then there's the international "Lobster Liberation Front," whose war on lobster fishermen has involved multiple acts of vandalism as well as direct threats.

The Guardian helps explain why lobsters and crabs can't feel pain, pointing out that they have only 100,000 neurons, whereas many vertebrates have upwards of 100 billion. Meanwhile, continuing its long tradition of ignoring inconvenient facts, PETA turns to supposed scientific evidence from the Coalition to End Animal Suffering and Exploitation to "prove" that lobsters feel pain anyway.

PETA employs the same half-baked tactics when questioning studies that show fish don't feel pain. They turn to "scientific experts" who just happen to be animal rights activists. It seems that something as inconsequential as science can't stop PETA and its ilk from pursuing its ultimate goal: "Total animal liberation."

This is a far-left group with an insidious agenda to make life difficult for human beings, like you and me. The proirities they assign to the rights of animals, placing them in a superior moral position to humans is nothing short of demented.

A short time ago, they also tried to scandalize the process of making an animal Kosher, using all sorts of specious and very questionable evidence that the Koshering process mistreated these animals.

These people should not be taken seriously by anyone, and should be given no credibility at all.

Can you believe the wife of my husband's friend says she's only eating kosher, so has become a vegetarian.

Yeah, I always like how they say we aren't inherently better or different than "other animals", and then proceed to apply different standards to human behavior than to that of animals. If we're no different than them why can't we eat them? They eat each other. If we're just one more animal, what's the problem? By criticizing human actions, they implicitly admit we are different by holding our acts up to a different standard.

But in the Law, certain types of animal are explicitly allowed to be eaten, while others are not. So why would she have to go vegetarian to be kosher?? I don't get it.

Seems like too much hot stuff for the delicate flavor of the lobster. You say you've tried it and it's good? Can you even taste the lobster?

I know, and armed with all the critical thinking faculties of a typical liberal, they can't even see the inherent conflict. Maybe they can't think too good because of their diet. ;-)

WEll, since they screaam if you don't dunk them in the boiling water fast enough, I'm not sure I buy the study.

That said:

I always make sure the pot is at aa full rolling boil, the lobsters are chilled and sleepy from the fridge, and I pop them in head-first.

Pass the butter.

I love spicy too, but I worried that the lobster might get lost in all the noise. The cobb salad looks excellent, except I don't like romaine hearts and would use the outer dark green leaves.

I've heard of people soaking them in booze to get them blasted and anesthetized before dunking.

You can use whatever you like as a base, maybe boston bib, or on a bed of arugula, I assure you, this recipe "screams" delicacy...

People are more violently opposed to fur than leather, because it's safer to harass rich women than biker gangs.
