You might be freepy but they are creepy
Hi! Welcome to FR. I hope you receive a better reception here than at DU, though we are a bit paranoid because we *do* get a lot of disruptive "troll" attacks from the leftists over there -- your post has the ring of truth, though, in my estimation. I also hope you enjoy the forum, though with our America-centric focus and extreme conservativism you might not be interested in a lot that we have to say.
It is a great place to track breaking news and get instant analysis that is better than what you see on the television news channels. There are also hundreds of active posters online at any given moment, so a post like yours can rack up an expected number of responses in a matter of minutes.
Good likeness, Darks. I'm saving that for in case anybody asks for your picture. Reminds me of something. I just can't remember what.
Ciao Bear_Slayer,
I don't think Bush is the smartest man in the world, but he is a leader, a determined leader. I like southerners because they more than most Americans love their land like an Italian loves Italy, with the warts, with some good prejudices.
I think Bush walks funny, but so did John Wayne.
I detested Kerry, because the fool didn't even vote in favor of the first Iraq war and then to make up for it pointed to his heroism in Vietnam which was then blasted like in a Star Wars movie by the veterans that he had betrayed.
I don't know what the truth is. Here from Italy (and in web world) I followed the elections from a more Macchiavellian point of view and witnessed what a fool this supposedly smarter and aristocratic man made of himself.
1. Very foolish to re-open Vietnam wounds to make up for ones own weakness.
2. Very foolish not to realize that his betrayal of comrades and his definition of them as Genghi Khan murderers would not come back to haunt him.
3. Extremely foolish to have Film maker Moore at the Democratic convention sitting next to the anti-democratic peanut president. Moore is on record insulting the American people. Never even mind if what he said is true (which of course is not). But never mind. Would you run for president honoring someone who calls the people who are supposed to elect you "stupid"?
Just from a cold and calculating Macchiavelli standpoint that is tantamount to harikiri. Never mind left wing or right wing, that was just a matter of political intelligence, political savoir-faire. Imagine such an idiot dealing with the wolves and hyenas of world politics.
Maybe later I will talk poorly of Bush. But the man had 70% of the Iraqi's dancing in the street pointing their green fingers to Allah. And that is a success. Now except for Hamas, which is hopeless except for Israeli missiles, there seems to be even progress in Israel and disputed territories. That is a success. The American economy is good, certainly better than Germany and France. That is a success.
Maybe I will talk bad about Bush, but unless the people here are ghouls, I am sure we can have intelligent discussions. I tried at DUmmie. I don't mind being wrong and corrected. But I was just called Pig, Freep, racist, cretin... and here I am already talking about wine and yodeling, Islam and Sin, PC and Cherry Coca Cola. If you are a DUmmie, tell Mr. Skinner who I wrote a letter to asking to be reinstated, that he is an unhappy man, a misanthrope, a Kim and a Goebbels. As a matter of fact, I am certain that if his favorite foreign dictator suddenly materialized, I am certain that the Big DUmmie is so insignificant that the despot would not even receive him, but instead, like the lowliest peasant he oppresses, would merely pause, sniff the air and then look under his shoe!
Darksheare, you suspicious Freep, am I still an infiltrator? Now I want your official stamp of approval!
Thanks.
Been 'one of those days' today.
Here's a hint. If you want to castigate Bush, do it based on illegal immigration and the growth of government. You'll have a cheering section. If you do it based on cultural values or his leadeership in the WOT you'll wish you were back at DU. :-}
That is the funniest thing I've read all day! Welcome to FR. Hope you find it to your liking.
LOL!
Naah, you just need some thorough familiarization in the forum waters and letting the addiction to the forum take over.
Resty and sweets can tell you that while I am normally paranoid, I can be fun.
There are some threads that have odd effects on the posters therein.
Sometimes we have one of the 'old timers' in forum 'pair up' and mentor some of the newbies, but sometimes not.
Depends on how capable the newbies seem.
Sorry if I seem somewhat disjointed at the moment, my mind and attention are occupied elsewhere at this moment.
:-/
Buona sera e benvenuto a Free Republic!
To put it in few words, we want less government intervention in our lives, and the DUers want more. We'd rather rely on ourselves than allow the government to run our lives.
Hello jwalsh07,
My point of view on immigration is that it should be controlled. Borders should not be invaded. There should of course be some compassion, some elasticity. Poor people are always a problem... There will always be crime, a huddling together, a big bordello. What the Muslims bring, along with that is also terrorism. So I would ban Islamic immigration.
I believe that immigrants must learn the language of their new country. That is non-negotiable. If they can share their language, music, gastronomy, then everybody gains. But if they insist on being Mexicans in America, or Italians in America then they have no right to come. Maybe for the first generation some of that is understandable. It's human, but they should not train their sons and daughters to love another flag or another culture. That is just treating the place like you own it, like a cow.
All that said, perhaps when you catch Mexicans at Tijuana, you can Parcel Post them to Italy. They drink wine, they dance, they live, they flirt, they are Christians, they don't blow up their children. And I'm sure they will fit in. Spanish is similar to Italian.
Yes, start an exchange program. If they bring crime, we Italians deserve it for all the Mafia we brought everywhere. But we don't deserve Islam.
"KOR and BITSP" . . . I love that! :)
Most of us here generally believe in individual responsibility, punishing bad guys, being able to protect ourselves with guns, limiting federal government, supporting a strong military, lowering taxes, retaining the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman, protecting the most innocent who reside in their mother's womb until they are born, and treating people as individuals rather than as a group. We also loathe the leftist Hollywood elite and Hillary Clinton.
I would LOVE to learn some Italian curse words.
LOL, you're in the right place Hudobna. It may take a while to exorcise those few socialist demons acquired since birth but hang with us, you've the instincts of a freeper. :-}
Ciao Xenalyte,
Roman, Neapolitan and Tuscan are the most colorful.
The classic in Rome is "Mortacci tua!"
Which is short for:
"Go beat a drum with the cleanest and whitest bone of the best of your dead relatives!"
Not nice. Avoid.
Then there is:
Abbraccia la tazza d'o' cesso e canta 'non so' degno di te!"
(Hug the toilet bowel and sing I'm not worthy of you!)
The Tuscan curses are generally more blasphemous (almost always against the Madonna)
Italy is really a pagan country with a Catholic veneer. But that's for a whole different thread!
LOL
Welcome to FR!!
It's not so easy and simple jwalsh07! Even when we had socialists and ex-communists running the country, I could smoke in a cafè.
Yes I am a smoker, I know it is bad, but I believe that should be my choice.
Now, also because of America's fixation for health, (America coughs and we sneeze) we now have RAUCHEN VERBOT. I'm not blaming the USA. Our own geniuses passed the law, but like all movements, good and bad, we looked to America for inspiration.
Now even if I go to a piano bar, no more blue-gray cloud over my cognac as I listen to Cole Porter music. I will die in perfect health.
I am for delegislation. I am fundamentally an anarchist for most things. Lawyers reason in such a way as to bring all things to their absurdly logical conclusion.
How can I win a debate? They are right, but they will inevitably invade a space of my life.
Eventually we will be perfect. I cannot smoke, I will have seatbelt, controlled car, rent controlled apartment, approved foods; I will not be able to tell an Indian to bury his hatchet (pun I don't understand not intended, unless it means something pretty obviously dirty); the food I eat will be measured for calories by law...
All good causes... How can I win a debate?
But what I fear is that the Cubans will be freer than us. They will have no constitutional rights, they will be politically oppressed, but each will have more personal human space directly around him. All formal human dignities denied, and that is bad, of course, but somehow freer in the many little things of life.
You know, nowadays when they build new roads, they measure what is called "Ecoligical Impact"... I wish they would do the same for our human souls (which also have a wild ecology) when they pass laws...
I guess that makes me a libertarian... I said something good about Socialists and ex-communists, something bad about America, and I even envied Cubans.
No, seriously what I'm saying is: I don't care if some minority doesn't want Christamas trees. Logically he might be right... There should be no favored religions... but we shouldn't be goverened only by the tyranny of logic... Follow human logic to the extreme and there is nothing but Nichilism. No one will celebrate, or celebrations will be like mayonnaise on white bread, bland. Happy Holidays? Happy Giving Trees?
Yes, perfectly fair and logical, lovely, but tasteless like a greenhouse tomato.
In the name of honoring diversity we kill it all.
They love to make laws. And we need laws, of course we do, but we too have a wild side. And when I read that NY Mayor Bloomberg (or something like that) will not even allow a smoke in the park... I don't like it. Also because our geniuses here will surely find inspiration.
Welcome to FR.
I've read your reasoned responses in this thread and you appear to be a good fit. FR doesn't ban arbitrarily just because someone has an unpopular opinion. The DUmp however is a different animal altogether.
The best vacation I ever had was in Roma in 2001. I spent 3 days there, then did a cruise to Naples and did the Pompeii/Amalfi Drive thing. Later in the cruise(after Malta/Spain/France) we did Firenza and Pisa. Loved it.
I hope you stick around, it's nice to get the perspective of non-Americans. It keeps us grounded.
Again, Welcome.
