Both are good theories, but here is one I believe...

Well, the whole Lib vs. Conservative paradigm isn't really accurate.
Where would you put Thomas Jefferson in that? Or Washington, or Paine? They certainly wouldn't be advocating "compasssionate conservatism".

The truth is, they agree on more than they disagree on. Most of the differences are in scope and detail, not fundamentals.
