Mattis told about 200 people at the San Diego Convention Center: "Actually, it's a lot of fun to fight, you know. It's a hell of a hoot. It's fun to shoot some people. I'll be right up front with you, I like brawling."
Do we mean to say they shouldn't use all the goodies they were given in order to kill the enemy? Hell no. They should kill as many of the enemy as possible. A verbal "faux pas" is not something that these generals are schooled at. If they were schooled as politicians they would have given us some sort of a hogwash story how heartbreaking it was to kill an Iraqi unit that set their convoy with road blasts. Sorry, but I just don't buy it. Rush to judgment has traditionally been easy for all of us and moralizing has never won a war. OK, he was a little too open or clumsy but he's not paid to be a speaker, his job was to command a unit in combat. If he's ever judged for anything that should be the scope of our interests. It is unacceptable to train these men to kill and later hold them liable for having killed (who cares if they enjoyed it or not). Such similar stupidities have befallen some other great American generals like William Tecumseh Sherman, George S Patton Jr. and Dwight D. Eisenhower. During their tenure they were severly criticized but after a few decades have elapsed we glorified their exploits. Let's not be that hasty and that hypocritical. We trained these people to do exactly what the General said he was doing, and we equipped them with plenty of toys to accomplish that goal (kill as many of the enemy as possible).

God bless those who go into harms way to fight for our country.
That would put a spur in the craw of the MSM wouldn't it?
okay...thanks for keeping me straight!
I love the smell of napalm in the morning. ;-)
(And yes, I went to public skool. Thanx four yore obsirvayshun.)
What are they?
Gee, think maybe it's the guy's real name? Many freepers share the sentiment that Bush's credibility is beyond reproach. So what? You've been here, what, two weeks? And you're already deciding who is and isn't "one of us"? Give it a rest please.

Lt. Gen. PC: Touchy-feely infiltrates the Marines

If you didnt go too deep into some of the news stories,
you might assume General Mattis was some kind of homicidal nutcase. Take (please) this oh-so-objective lede from the Associated Press:
Washington A decorated Marine Corps general said, "Its fun to shoot some people" and poked fun at the manhood of Afghans as he described the wars U.S. troops are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
It takes 21 paragraphs before this part of the generals letter to the troops being deployed to Iraq is quoted:
"The enemy will try to manipulate you into hating all Iraqis. Do not allow the enemy that victory. With strong discipline, solid faith, unwavering alertness, and undiminished chivalry to the innocent, we will carry out this mission."
snip
I saw him in a press conference the other day making these remarks. Sorry - I thought he was AWESOME!
This is a guy who will never suffer Post Traumatic Stress - becuase he knows he's killing the bad guys and he knows why.
I have no graphic to respond with, so I'll just applaud.
Oh, I'm sorry. Does one need to be signed up for a certain period of time before they can smell a rat? And I don't know whether it's the guys real name or not. Do you? Because it's really unknowable. It could be a fan of his work. It could be him. All I know is that the name is being used, and the words of the man don't add up with most feelings I have seen expressed about PRESIDENT Bush, his credibility, and his vision.
If the truth were told, there are a lot of folks alive today only because it's against the law to kill em!!
In before the ZOT!
A vanity for our first post?
How utterly charming!
This does not pass the smell test, you know.....
