Ritter Blasts Bush's War (May 5, 2003)
VAIW - Veterans Against The Iraq War ^ | May 5, 2003 | Jan Barry

Posted on 02/05/2005 6:12:49 PM PST by Calpernia

Scott Ritter may be the Bush reelection team’s worse nightmare.

The former UN chief weapons inspector in Iraq and card-carrying Republican is barnstorming America with a blunt message: George W. Bush’s war on Iraq was waged on a “bodyguard of lies.”

“We need regime change, and we need it quick,” Ritter told a gathering of peace activists in New Jersey on Sunday. “George W. Bush does not have the right…to represent the American people, if he told a lie. And he told a whopper.”

That whopper, said Ritter, was claiming that the US government had evidence that Saddam Hussein was hiding massive amounts of weapons of mass destruction and that was why Iraq must be invaded. The facts, he said, are that “the inspections worked. The United Nations did disarm Iraq.”

“I want the president impeached because he lied to the Congress of the United States,” Ritter said. “He may well go out and tell another lie about weapons of mass destruction” being found amid the rubble in Iraq. But, Ritter said, any scheme to plant evidence would run afoul of professional soldiers like those he served with in Gulf War I. “I can tell you, my fellow officers won’t sustain that lie.”

Ritter is a former Marine major who worked as a weapons inspector for the United Nations in Iraq from 1991 to 1998. These days he’s an antiwar activist on a mission to pacify Washington, DC.

“What happened in Baghdad last month was not in accordance with international law. What happened in Baghdad last month was a west Texas lynching,” Ritter said at New Jersey Peace Action’s annual dinner, where he was the guest of honor. “President Bush is implementing a policy of imperialism.”

Ritter said Americans who don’t want the United States to go the way of all empires—which, he said, die of indigestion—will have to fight an historic political battle over the nation’s future. “We can’t allow a bunch of neoconservatives to hijack America,” he said. “It’s not a right-wing fraternity pin—the American flag, we own it, the American people.”

Ritter said he has been taking his blunt message to college campuses and other forums around the country. And when anyone demands that he support the war in Iraq, he replies: “What part of war do you want to support?” and describes in graphic detail the hell hole of war.

Recounting the story of a Marine in a battle in Iraq, Ritter said that a soldier is only one face of patriotism. “Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the other face of patriotism—the people of the United States. … The other face of patriotism is the American citizen who gets up in the morning” and carries out the duties and responsibilities of citizenship.

“If you give up now, you are giving up on American democracy,” he said. Ritter urged the assembled peace activists to reach out to Republicans like himself and raise the constitutional issues and uncomfortable facts that Bush has run roughshod over. Among those facts, he said, is this glaring one:

“Bush was a deserter from his unit during the Vietnam War. He doesn’t know what it means to support the troops.”

Soros makes sense but others may be involved who wish to be RICHly rewarded by upsetting the Bush administration. Kerry makes the perfect lapdog with a public persona and mucho dinero. Ritter is drawing a paycheck from some one (other than his former employer, who is now in custody).

Follow the money.

Hopefully, with Condi Rice at State and Paul Volcker stepping on Anan's toes, it won't be the usual suspects. Time to UNseat them. In the real world, money is the instrument of power.

If one wished to see the proof of the WMD weapons found, then go and look at the photos in the "YOU GOTTA SEE THIS"
threads.

It is all in there and more than we are hearing about.

My brother Ray is ex-Air Force, when he was here, I showed him the buried planes and he says that if they were properly
prepared, before being covered, then there is no trouble with getting them in the air in a short period of time.

the libs are using Ritter because he used to be a republican, he's been in nj a few times and probably the only person to draw a crowd.  They are the saddest, meanest, and most angry people one would ever meet.  They are far from peaceful.   If you suffer from depression, a NJ peace seminar is the last place you would want to be unless you want to be pushed over the edge and commit suicide then it's the perfect place..  What a bunch of sour pusses.  where were these peace activists when Clinton started wars in Somalia and Kosovo?  Jan Barry writes for the Bergen Record as a freelancer.  They're a non issue, Bush won the election and all these frustrated peace activists know they lost, the party's over.  I bet there weren't more than 100 people statewide who were there.

It was said/thought that the WMD were at sea on the black
ships, went to Syria and was in the Russian convoy we
"accidently" bombed.

Since the planes were in your report I took them also, this is a very long report, appears to be good info.

1987 Part of a report, this does not include the
al Qaeda navy ships that pulled out to sea and were
tracked, and have disappeared.

<< Air Defense Command--about
4,000 self-propelled antiaircraft guns, more than 300 SAMs; Army Air
Corps--about 270 armed helicopters.

Navy--one frigate, eight OSA-class patrol
boats with Styx SSMs, other small patrol, minesweeping, and supply ships; (being
held in Italy under embargo in 1988) four Lupa-class frigates, with Otomast-2
SSMs and Albatros/Aspide SAMs, six Assad-class corvettes with Otomat-2 SSMs.

Air
Force-- about 500 combat aircraft in 2 bomber squadrons, 11 fighterground attack
squadrons, 5 interceptor squadrons, 1 counterinsurgency squadron, and 2
transport squadrons. >>

What is wrong with this picture?
by
Shelly Aamodt
02/22/2003

Beyond the obvious, the stark absence of signs
pointing to Saddam and his evil, protestors
worldwide appear oblivious to who Saddam is,
what he has hid, and scarier yet, where he may
have hid it.

As one skeptical of Saddam’s goodness, with
documented information of murder and mayhem
against humanity, questions emerge. During the
Iran-Iraq war, where did the revealed 1,000 tons
of chemical agents go? And the 380 smuggled
rocket engines used for missile propellants and
control systems, why are they still unaccounted
for? Also, just where are the 6,500 missing
chemical rockets placed? Finally, no evidence of
the destruction of 8,500 liters of Anthrax, why? Is
it possible, that just one world-class protestor
might feel the necessity of posing such a question?
Or would that run contrary to their anti-American
reason for protest?

In viewing the incomplete picture portrayed by
protestors, one wonders if anyone questions
where the weapons of mass destruction have been
stored. Disappearance of such a quantity you
would think would bring inquiry. You would
think?

How many protestors are aware that even today,
three mysterious ships that are suspected of
carrying weapons of mass destruction have been
tracked over the past three months venturing into
the world’s oceans? The ships are clearly in
violation of maritime and international laws, for
they are maintaining radio silence and providing
no information of cargo or destination. Why no
signs questioning the ships and the violation of
laws? Certainly, the seriousness of such a
catastrophic scenario to environment and
civilization must be realized.

What is wrong with the picture portrayed by
protestors? Is it their public display for such an
evil person, misplaced outrage due to a lack of
knowledge, naivety, partisan politics, communist
influence, one or perhaps all?

Credibility to picture will come only when
protestors see Saddam as the evil one and protest
for his demise.

My Uncle belongs to VFW. These people from VAIW seem to be the ones that show up and tell their horror stories about how bad they are treated by the gov and how unsupplied they are.

http://www.vaiw.org/vet/index.php

How does one get into a VFW and become a speaker? Are there qualifications or papers that have to be supplied as proof of being a real soldier? Are these corrupt paid off soldiers? Can anyone pay the dues and just say they are soldiers?

When I returned home in '71, my father, a retired WWII Navy Chief, took me to the local VFW hall. My father and my grandfather were both members. When hey next met, about a month or so later, I was told by my father that I was not welcome there.

John Kerry and the VVAW were big in the Northeast; most were phonies, hell Kerry himself was and is a phony. But they were busy spreading slander.(BTW, at the time I was Naval reserve for the last 2 yrs of my contract).

I don't imply that all VFW chapters were like this.

>>>John Kerry and the VVAW were big in the Northeast;

I think we can say they still are big in the Northeast.

I guess this is why Abscam came about? Most of the people that got caught in that sting were so powerful, they escaped the consequences.

Thanks for the ping! I figured they were doing something like that, just didn't know what they were calling themselves now. Looks like it's run by old VVAW members using a new name:

Jan Barry, a Vietnam veteran, is a journalist living in New Jersey. Jan is also an editor of VAIW and a contributing editor of Intervention Mag.

VVAW was founded by six Vietnam veterans, including Jan "Barry" Crumb. . .
