The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 01/27/2005 9:59:05 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

~sigh~

It's a Corin day...

Hadda appt. with the eye doctor to settle on permanent prescription for contacts...only I couldn't find the pair I'd been wearing. Took 'em out on the way home the other night 'cause my eyes were tired. Found 'em on the way out the door...in my coat pocket.

Leavin' the eye doctor remembered I'd left the laptop at home.

Got to the parking garage and the building was having a fire drill. Hadta wait for the garage to reopen.

And, I left my phone in the truck...at least it's charging...

Izzit Spring yet?

BTW - heard from our Man of Gondor (ksen). He's busy, but okay.

Congratulations, Rosie! So when's the realtor coming to look?

Tomorrow afternoon at four o'clock.

Yeah, we should compile a list of Agatha Christie books. Maybe Sayers, too.

I think I only have one or two Sayers. I do have a few Brother Cadfael's, though.

I just have a small mini-van, so space is at a premium. I'm planning to bring books, clothes, a few dishes, my instruments, and the cat. Not much else. But still...it'll be a tight fit. I don't have one of those newfangled vans where the seats fold into the floor or anything like that.

I broke a monitor this morning. Dropped it when I caught the cord on something as I was picking it up. When we picked it up, something inside rattled.

*sigh*

It's a Monday.

I think I'm going to get away with it, but I feel horrible about it.

Do you have a luggage rack? If not they also make cartop carriers that will strap on top. They're not too spendy.

Maybe that's the thing that'll give you a "little push out of the door." ;-)

I'm just kidding.

My first "real" job after college was working as a lab assistant for a consulting firm. Right before I left I broke a $300 piece of lab glassware. It was unintentional, but since they weren't going to pay me for any vacation time (I missed getting it by a week), I'd made wisecrack to a co-worker that I'd take it out in lab equipment.

I was vey quiet after that...

I do have a luggage rack...just not sure how to use it! And I didn't know how much carriers would likely cost and how easy they'd be to load and unload.

But that might be an option for some stuff. The instruments and the cat need to go in the van, for sure...but stuff that isn't as sensitive to temperatures and all could go in a carrier if I could find one.

How not spendy is "not too spendy"?

Here's one on eBay for about $30.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7950749196&category=33651

Look around though. You might find a used one. Or even check the rental places (like U-Haul or Ryder).

You could easily pack clothes and linens in something like this.

Yeah, something like that could work for clothes, for sure. Wonder what it'd do to gas milage?

I should pick up the local classifieds paper and see what used ones are available. Might be worth a shot.

Of course, I'm still trying to THINK in terms of not having any space other than the inside of the van...otherwise I'll never get rid of enough. ;-)

Mondays... blergh. Sorry about the monitor. I've thus far avoiding major breakages, much to my own surprise.

I'm hoping the rest of my computer comes today. Then I just need to scrounge a monitor and keyboard somewhere and I'll be ready to go.

Have I mentioned that I want a new computer?

*sniff*

But first I need a decent job. Among other things.

I have one of these: Sears X-Cargo hard roof top cargo carrier.

I've used it for my cross-country moves with my little Grand Am coupe - it holds a ~lot~. If we can figure out a way to get it to you, its yours (I ain't moving again). Do you have a luggage rack on the roof?

Good morning everyone! It's time for my Monday Morning Bug Update!

The first thing we did was take out the gas tank...it was an absolute mess. Here is the tank before we took it out.

Almost out...

Gas tank is out...

Here is where the gas cap goes...

This is the mess that was slowly leaking from the hose underneath the tank...

The next thing we did was take the wheels off and try to lubricate the brakes so the wheels would turn...the car barely rolls.

Here's a brake drum...

Here is the wheel...hoo boy...

Sprayed this whole area with BP Blaster.

It didn't work. Car still doesn't roll well.

Steve was getting ready to tackle removing the engine, so I took the cover off...

Before we got to the engine, we took the two front seats out and the bottom of the back seat...

This is the underneath side of the back seat bottom. Note the mouse nest...

Fixin' to take out the engine...Steve is putting car up on blocks and I'm reading John Muir's Compleat Guide for Idiots.

Here is Steve, working underneath. He has on his safety glasses...just pushed up to his forehead. Sigh...

Draining the oil

The jedis, hanging out in the shop, watching TV, watching us work... eating snacks...

We never did get the engine out...we just ran out of time. That will have to wait till next weekend!

I have a luggage rack, yep!

I dunno if those are shippable, but if they are, I'd happily buy it from you! Looks like just what I need, and pretty simple...simple is good!

I can check into it. It's really too big to box, so I wonder if we can just slap an address on it, and send it as is. Because basically, it ~is~ a box.
