I used to live in central Idaho, where it got very cold, and snowed quite a lot. My house had a sloped metal roof so the snow would slide off. I had a wood stove, which was good to have so that when a big storm knocked the power out, at least I could stay warm. I drove a 4x4 vehicle, so I could get around. I had an in-line heater in the engine so when the temps got in the 20-below or so range, I could plug it in so it would start. The coldest morning I remember was -50°, and I had to go out in that to my job at the local ski hill. I was so bundled up, that I had no square inch of skin exposed to the elements. I was wearing my ski clothing including goggles and a neoprene snowmobile mask.

I don't miss it at all.

Bad weather is nothing to mess with, especially as many idiots as there are out there on the roads

He said a couple of car in front of his lost it and crashed into each other on the snow covered road

I had kept his distance from the cars in front of him and was able to stop in time and not get involved in the accident

This is now, today. And today, the watchword is liberty, and America is its guardian -- for all, at least by word if not always deed. Time for us all to learn it; it comes as second-nature to us Americans, if we'll just stop talking ourselves out of it

Good piece .. thanks for posting this

David Brooks has a good column in the NY Times about the President's speech. Here's a snip:

With that speech, President Bush's foreign policy doctrine transcended the war on terror. He laid down a standard against which everything he and his successors do will be judged.

The foster parents are going to California for 2 weeks.

Are the foster parents going on vacation or is it some kind of family emergency? I mean, why don't they take the kids with them? I thought the whole concept of foster parenting was to treat the child as your own...taking them for medical and dental check-ups, consulting with their teachers and going on vacations. Am I way behind times here, Libby?

Those banners may be "Cool", but they are also a source of spyware and hog bandwidth.
