I understand your point and your concerns .. but this law doesn't force people to be kept alive no matter what

The way the already passed House version is written will make Living Wills almost impossible if challenged by any relative, no matter how distant or kookie or ill intentioned.

i am trying to tell you that this is already the case concerning living wills.

if a person signs his drivers license to be an organ donor, do you think it happens if immediate family disargees? no, it is not legally binding.

From your link

She was cared for incredibly well, Wolfson said. Her hair was always combed, and after 15 years of being incapacitated, she never developed a bedsore. In fact, Wolfson said until about seven years ago, Michael Schiavo had Terry's makeup and hair done regularly, and her clothes changed every day - to the point that hospice staff protested that he was being overly demanding about her care.

I would give this guy a listen if he had been a little more honest

That is a load of BS .. it was Michael that denied even having her teeth brushed

Denied anyone from seeing here

Refuses to release here medical records

It is Michael who is gung ho on having the tube removed and he didn't waste much time in doing so

And he has made plans to have her cremated immediately after her death .. with no autopsy

Why are they so afraid to allow the public to see Terry and her records?

The difference is that now if a family member also has your durable power of atty and agrees, your wishes will be carried out. Under the new law, any relative can take it into "Federal Court for years, no matter what paperwork you have drawn up.

The Senate version is not the same as the house and it is my understanding the Senate wouldn't agree to the house version

Which is why it was sent back to the house of reps

anyone can sue anybody for anything. perhaps a new law will help keep the ethics review board of medical facilities on their toes. you do know of these boards, don't you?

You sure are way out there.......

there is no need of the exstreme do you know people can will themselves to die....it is call free will and one can leave if they want to!

That is with out assistant suicide!

People who have had NDE talk about it all the time....some stay because their work is not done here yet....others leave because it no longer suits them!

There are many mysteries in life....

My husband did not want rehab for feared nuring home which I would not allow, but my health was not able to in all reality take care of him at the time....

So even though I was in a quandary he could have checked out!

he ask me to stay but I told him I would see him in the morning so either he knew he was leaving or just died I don't know.....but the doctor told me he was going to move him to another place for rehab and another told me when I asked if he was dying I did not get a straight answer only telling me about his rehab in the AM and also saying somethng about his heart muscle was only 30 or 20%.....boy was I out of it it never registered!

I had too leave because I did not want him to see me cry and upset him I was trying to be strong!

I truely feel if Terri Schiavo wanted to die she would have lefe years ago.....

There are some great places to camp here too. You could send Mike and the kids camping and you can come hang out here. We can go shopping and sightseeing. Just stay away form my stove!

No, and the Senate version is worse. It allows any relative to prevent ending stopping any kind of treatment, not just life support. Any relative, no matter how nutso or evil can take you to court and force you to continue chemo or radiation treatment on a cancer victim long after there is no hope and they should be allowed to die in peace.

If Terri dies soon, this will all drop in the great legislative black hole with the Flag Burning Ammendment. Otherwise it will get passed in a week and be law for 2 years until anger over it gives the House and Senate both to the Dems.

85% of Americans believe that te decision should be left to the spouse, the way all State laws do now. When they find a new Federal Law now forces them into Federal Court because Aunt Essie has scruples about their choices, they are gonna be angrier than I am now.

All judges are supposed to do is follow the law, and they did.

Did he .. or did someone do it for him

If this is true .. he shouldn't be making life or death decisions he can't view for himself

Florida judge embroiled in right-to-die dispute
By Abby Goodnough The New York Times
Friday, March 18, 2005

Greer is legally blind and has a soft voice and a patient manner in the courtroom. In his order that Schiavo's feeding tube be removed, he politely cited the "excellent argument" of both sides' lawyers, even as he wrote, "The Court is no longer comfortable granting stays simply upon the filings of new motions and petitions since there will always be 'new' issues that can be pled."

No, anybody can't sue anybody. You have to have 'standing' to bring a suit or it will be dismissed. That is why Terri's parents always lost, they didn't have standing. What this new law does is give any relative, no matter how distant 'standing' to sue the spouse to stop their deciding things.

Judges aren't suppose to see for themselves. Tey are supposed to listen to expert opinion and rule.

Eventually judges always stop hearing new petitions on a matter, otherwise no case would ever end.

No it doesn't .. have you read the bill

And if it makes you feel any better Sen Levin said on the Senate floor .. though he would vote agains the bill .. it was a better bill then the house had

I read the original. It may have been ammended.

This is bad law being stampeded into place to save one woman no matter how bad it is.
