What a hoot! Cats like fresh water, so that fountain thingy is obviously quite attractive to him. You can get water dishes for cats that have a little recirculating pump, so it keeps the water moving and aerated. I'm thinking about getting one for Squeaker and Baby. I'm still missing Maia, I keep thinking I see her in her usual spots where she slept. :(

You will miss her for a long time, I'm sure, but after awhile, some of the ache will be replaced by happy memories.

The saddest thing for me is that I think she did suffer at the end, and that's not what I wanted for her. I had hoped that when the time came, we could put her down at home, or that she would die peacefully in her sleep.

I do have good memories of her - lots of fun, and like all cats, she had some cute little things she'd do. I have a digital photo of her that's still on my camera memory card of her under the Christmas next to an ornament that the other kitties had knocked off the tree and were batting around. I'll have to print that one out. It's pretty cute.

It's been HOT this week - in the 80's. The attic fans were running a little in the afternoon this past week, and the few tulips that came up aren't lasting very long. I planted the tulip bulbs in our garden patch, along with daffodils and calochortus. Most of them didn't come up - I think it might have been way too wet. We had standing water in the garden patch this winter. I'm just going to buy some decorative pots and plant bulbs in containers this fall, and cluster them on the patio. That way they won't be in standing water.

I have dahlias, caladium, begonias, and peony that need to be planted. My hubby dug an area near the house for a bulb bed. We're also going to till up the patch of weeds euphamistially called the "lawn" and put down sod, probably next weekend. I'll have to spray roundup on it this weekend to kill at the crap that's come up. Work, work, work!

Hi everyone. Sorry I've been among the missing lately, but I've been larnin a new "free" paint program.

Anyone wants some info, let me know. It's terrific fun if you have the patience to give it some time. I'm starting to find my way thru it a little bit. Oh I also got a left-handed keyboard to relieve the stress on my right shoulder. Seems like it might work. Not such a reach when I use the mouse so much. ;)

I would love to kill the weeds out there and fill in the spaces with some Kentucky Bluegrass, but I don't want to put anything out that will harm the birds. Being the first spring I've been here, I'm just discovering what has been planted in the yard. There isn't much in the way of summer flowers, but there is a lot coming up and a lot blooming out there now. Everything is in clumps, though. It is too dense, but I'm not sure if I should try to thin them out and trasplant anything while it's blooming. Haven't seen any Tulips yet, but there are Daffodils blooming and some Irises coming up. The Tulip Tree is blooming too, but I think those several nights in the 20's damaged it because a lot of the petals are turning brown and dropping off the tree. It is up to 77 degrees here and just beautiful. Hope it lasts. I've seen way more than I care to of crappy weather.

Oh wow Libby. What great stuff you have coming up. It will be a blast checking it all out.

Snow at home again today. I think we'd better stay here a bit longer..lol.

Al's heading back to Conn in a couple days. His Sis finally died after removing the life support on her. What a shame they waited so long. A couple months in that condition sux.

I would love to kill the weeds out there and fill in the spaces with some Kentucky Bluegrass, but I don't want to put anything out that will harm the birds.

Roundup (glyphosate) is fairly benign, and the Rodeo formulation of it is even approved for use right next to bodies of water. It won't harm the birds. The weeds will absorb it, transport it to their roots, and die. The temperatures need to be in the 60's, so that the weeds are actively growing in order to transport the active ingredient of the herbicide. Glyphosate also breaks down fairly quickly in the soil, so you don't need to worry about it being residual. Stuff like organophosphate insecticides are far, far more likely to harm the birds than a weed killer like glyphosate.

Everything is in clumps, though. It is too dense, but I'm not sure if I should try to thin them out and transplant anything while it's blooming.

You should wait until they are through blooming, and the greenery is drying out until you do anything with them. You can dig them up, separate the bulbs and store them until it's time to plant in the fall. Beautiful photos! Our tulip tree has dropped all of its blossoms now and is leafing out.

Yeah, someone over on the bird thread just posted a link for me about transplanting Daffodils. Thanks, and thanks for the tip on the weed killer.

Danged wind is kicking up. Grrrrr.....

Love old buildings, etc. (not especially old men)

Old men were put on this earth for old, treacherous, tiefing wimmin. So, if you go poaching on the nubile´s preserve Gran, you will just encourage some of the old lechers on this forum to try their hand at cherry picking too.

Thanks Gran. Here it is:

My hard drive is about shot (again) so I don't know how long I'll be around. I can read the thread, but it takes forever to post anything, so I'm mostly lurking these days.

So sorry to hear about Al's sister.
It is such a tough decision to remove life support -- I had to make that decision 7 years ago, and it is haunting.

I woke up with a monster headache today, too, Mo ... not sure we'll be getting snow soon though. It is 80 degrees. Probably have to blame last night's wine.

Lookin good Val. I like the color a lot. It's YOU...lol.

I'm worried a bit about my HD too. It's starting to make funny sounds and it's scaring me. I'd better start making some backups.
