Newbie/Former DUer (Yeah, whatever, goodbye to you and your friends, ZOT!)
Me, Myself, and I

Posted on 01/18/2005 4:34:44 PM PST by SeanQuinn

Hi, my name is Sean Quinn. My original political philosophy was that of a moderate, then I creeped liberal, then joined DU. I had my fun there and became a donor (which I think's about to expire). I got a membership at FR, ORIGINALLY to just troll and to read as most DU folk do. After some serious post-election thinking and re-evaluating of my philosophy (a good issue for this is social security) I stopped going to DU. I started listening to 580 WDBO here in Orlando which advertises itself as "the conservative radio station". Thank the Lord, we don't get Air America here, so it's basically one of the few choices in talk radio. I heard Boortz (whom I love for his open-source talks as well as his political philosophy, yaay for linux) and then Hannity. The gentlemen I put down as a "rightie conservative" before now started to make some serious sense.

So, I say, HI. Though I have an account at DU of the same name, I won't be going back there. I'm pretty sure that I've found a home for me here at FR.

If you have any questions, comments, etc. please contact me on AIM at QuinnieDaPooh921 or of course, as always, post them below.

I'm a bit of a neocon, in the extent of taking it literally. I am a new conservative. I hope to once be known as a paleocon.

What I'd like to know is where to find a good guide or some hints for a newbie like myself. Is there a guide? What's Smoky Backroom and GOP Club for? Stuff like that. Thank you dearly.

-S. Quinn

My palms sweat every time I hover above the "Post" button!

See my post #219. If you are honest, odds are you won't get zotted, unless you prove yourself to be nuttier than a Payday bar.

I went over to DU, just out of curiosity, from people talking of DU. They have no class, are ignorant, use horrible language and are so nasty. I will not go over there ever again. There are truley scary people on that site.

Sorry to see you're on the Left Coast, although having spent some time out there myself while driving for United Van Lines, it has some good points.

There's a troll who constantly posts vanities on FR, all with a different take on the same basic theme. Sometimes he pretends to be a liberal wanting "honest and rational" discussion. Sometimes he's a kid asking all sorts of questions about conservatism. Sometimes he just asks random questions. As soon as I saw this thread, I suspected it was him. No real way for me to know, though. I don't have the all-seeing crystal ball that the mods have.

The Zot is not my worry, my worry is being worthy of such a clever bunch of FReepers...

Fortunately, you can tell a DUer from their fragrance.

You obviously haven't read any of my religious posts.
If being nutty as a Payday is grounds for banning, I should have been gone a long time ago.

That's the most likely explanation. In fact, I can't think of another. Sometimes the reason for the Zot is obvious. Other times, like this, it's less clear.

As a monthly supporter, I'd like an explanation of someone I was grudgingly giving the benefit of the doubt to.

Part of the problem is that I, and a lot of folks here, would welcome a few honest liberals. Trolls have learned to try and exploit that. But they can only keep up the charade so long. They are so used to relying upon regurgitated spin that they can only pretend to be something else for so long before they run out of neurons to fire.

From a newbie to another newbie, Welcome, and I too have observed a certain amount of hostility towards newbies, that explains my lack of introduction.

Well, you only have one post before this (and a pretty good one too). Unless you say something really dumb or attempt to speak with authority on a subject I usually don't check a persons sign up date.

A welcome to Free Republic is not always what it seems. Many on this board that love the flavor of troll will post that for several reasons. Sometimes it is just an honest welcome. Other times it is because we'll smell something that just doesn't seem right and wish to "tag" that poster so we can find them later, essentially patting them on the back while looking for a soft spot to stick the knife.

Anyway a belated

to FRee Republic.

Fear not, grasshopper. Your intellectual edge will be fire-hardened and sharpened by the fact that we almost as hard on each other as we are on trolls. But it is the best way to learn how to hone your debating skills.

Plus, if you have a slightly deranged sense of humor, that never hurts, either.

Well, I have been known to say some dumb things in my life, not intentionally of course but I am going to be very cautious, unless I see something dumb then let the dumbness begin...haha

My 9-year-old knows who Churchill was and can give (if not verbatim) paraphrases of quotes. I would be greatly disappointed if any of my children couldn't quote Churchill at 13 and give chapter and verse on him.
