You heard it here first.
Also Colts 35 Pats 27.
Can't wait for this weekend!!!
Ping me when you get the Game Day thread set up. My kid had his tonsils and adenoids out so I come and go lately.
I don't do game day threads on a game like this.......... complete solitude for me, no interference, no phone calls, no nothing until the victory, then I'll come down to the computer and gloat!
He's holding a news conference in about half an hour. We should know then.
>I grew up in Brookline.
>younz are a younzer!
That's no jumbo! Gotta go redd up the room now.
Of all the Burgh dialect I've taken with me, the one that other people have seemed to like the most is "nebby". My wife (from Wisconsin) absolutely loves the word because it describes her mother so well. :)
The thing I miss the most about Pittsburgh is eating Danny's Hoagies, which is out near the entrance to South Park. You just can't get anything like that anywhere else I've roamed. It's tops on our list when we go back, and whenever someone does go back they had better bring a couple back with them or else! :)
I think he just wanted to have one more fun year in his life before he ends up getting drafted by a crappy NFL team. Money aside.
Do the Jets still have Vinnie Vertical Testes playing for them? He's so lame.
LOL
Can I call you a wahhhhmbulance?
This is a discussion among football fans...every one of us is biased.
Are you claiming that all this Pennington hype you're spewing is unbiased?
Pittsburgh PA is in the throwes of Stealer Mania. That's 75% of the evening news broadcast. We have a lot of visitors to town who are going to dump 13 mil in our economy. Welcome to all the Jets fans! Welcome...but we hope ya lose, hehehe!
Right on, Steelers rock! And the world will see it at 4:30 PM EST tomorrow (Sat)!
ROFL! You're a real gut buster, kid. You really bring the heavy-duty smarts and integrity. (sarcasm off)
It's game day, I'm up early and I read the sports pages of the two Pittsburgh papers already. I must say, the things I center my sports attention on when I read the columns are the comments of the players, the direct quotes. And I must say, and you should like this, the Jets players are saying all the right things as game time approaches. That is a little alarming to me as a Steeler fan. Some Jets players seem to have the right perspective on this, so me being a Steeler guy, that's not what I want to hear. Here is an example:
"When you talk to some of the older guys and ask them why they still play the game, it's not about money; it's to be a champion," Mawae said. "There are a lot of guys in this locker room who have that feeling."
You see, this indicates to me that the Jets are coming into the game with their heads in the right place. A point for the Jets.
Now to your remarks, I could have guessed that you would continue to say silly things and begin calling names because you, after all are one thing, you are consistent.
You wrote: "I think its you who lives vicariously through video games and fantasy football." --- Let me tell you. sonny, I have never played a video game in my life, not that there's anything wrong with them for those who like them. And I sort of laugh at all that "fantasy football" stuff, I don't even know how it works. I just guess it's some little game fans play if they are frustrated G.M.'s or something. I don't care.
You also wrote: " Who is the ignorant one now fat man?" --- I think you can answer your one question.
Kid, I was a player, and I honor professional athletes, and anyone in any field who takes the daily pain and sticks with something long enough to reach excellence. Don't soil these conversations with your foolish conclusions and name calling. You don't do justice to the team you are rooting for.
Enjoy the game and don't take it so seriously. After all, it's the players and coaches who are playing the game, we're just watching. Who knows, your team may pull off a victory today. Try to be an adult about it if it happens. Enjoy.
p.s. It's 17 degrees here this morning and we're looking forward to a hot time on The North Shore later on.
Yeh, it's crazy. Yesterday, I walking to the store in this North Hills area and there were mothers rolling their toddlers in strollers with Steeler scarves, buttons, and hats all over themselves. One even had the stroller decked out in Steeler stickers and black and gold.
The thing I like most about this team, I must say from being close to the team for decades, is the closeness of the players and their calm, directed intelligence. For example, I saw a tv show on Hines Ward the other day. The things I learned about him made me feel more certain about his effort and excellent character. These players really want this.
And I must say, I'm 58 years old in a week or so, and I don't get that feeling in my stomach so often that I used to get before momentous games as a player and an observer (fan). As you get older I guess you get a little calmer. Having been burned a lot in the past decade with the Steelers, it seems to this mid-lifer that it's smart not to get too excited or too involved. But, I woke up this morning at 3:00 a.m. and could not get back to sleep. I came downstairs onto the computer, read the sports columns in the papers online. And what do you know....... I'm getting that feeling in my stomach that I used to get before Steeler Super Bowls and big Pirate playoff and World Series games. The feeling is not real strong this morning, but I feel it. I know it's going to grow all day.
The one thing I hope for the game is that we HOLD ON TO THE BALL - no lost fumbles. The cold weather makes the ball very hard and slippery, so this will be tough for both teams. Because Heinz Field is down by the rivers (almost in the rivers now ;-) ), there is also higher humidity that effects the balls in flight.
Good luck today, and keep in touch!
Someone start a game thread, I'll sneak down at half time to see the action.
:-)
I must admit, I had no idea the Steelers were giving 9½ in this game. I expected four or five, something like that.
It was down to eight and a half on Thursday, but it's still too many points in my opinion. The weather should hold the scoring down. But sometimes, in cold weather, there are turnovers on the other team's side of the field, and then some folks score on short drives, thus driving up the score some. So who knows?
All I know is that I'm not betting the Steeler game. I'm going to enjoy it! I cannot enjoy a game when I bet, because I tend to bet seldom but "big". Six points sounds more correct to me.
But, you, me and all Steeler fans ought to take heart at the relatively big spread by "the boys". It indicates that "the boys" may know something. You know what I mean. I hope they do.
All I know is that I have really developed a sort of affection for this team that I haven't had for a team in a long time. The more I see them, read about them, and talk to a few of them, the more I like and respect them.
I never put a prediction of a score in writing (bad luck, you know), but let's just say, I'll swill an Iron down for younz after the final gun!
Go Steelers!
p.s. The rivers are so high, there will be people pulling up to the gates in boats festooned with Steeler flags. Move aside, river patrol. ;-)
I just put on Channel 4 for the morning news, so I can bask in the hype, and see those rivers. I'm guessing you'll be at the game, no?
Pssssst. The Jets are not going to win this one.
